Has anyone on here got any real world experience with regards to the vw diesel engines (mainly the 1.9 pd tdi and the 2.0 pd tdi)

Seems to be a few mentions online that the 2.0's are made of chocolate, but as with anything i'm well aware the internet is full of stories of cars with issues and not the ones that run fine!

Thanks smile

My Dad's had a 1.9 130 TDi Passat for a couple of years and no major problems to speak of. Seems to eat coolant temperature sensors though, but not too much of a problem at only a tenner a pop smile

2.0PD apparently has camshaft issues.

1.9PD is generally regarded as bullet proof.

PD130 is the best combo of performance/economy/reliability.

its looking like a 2.0 tdi 140 is most common for the spec i like the look of.

Seems to be the 170's that suffer from everything going wrong at once!?

Wish someone had told our 1.9pd it was supposed to be bullet proof!

We've still got an 05 passatt 2.0 tdi with 175k on the clock, runs perfectly. Nothing other than servicing, brakes and tyres.

The pd140 and cr engines to be avoided. The pd130, or earlier 110 engines are the ones to have. I've had both in octavia, they are ace. In fact, I have one for sale right now. wink

I had a 170 2 litre tdi in an A3 for 3 years, and it gave me no problems apart from a couple of times the DPF lit up the engine warning light. Te dealer told me it was done to doing too many motorway miles (do a lot on business) at steady speeds (you try doing more than 80mph on the M6 in rush hour) and the only solution was to run it in 4th gear at 70-80 mph for 10 miles of so, once a fortnight. Once I did that, didn't have any problems at all.
