TR6 AMG? ADVICE PLEASE......
Discussion
HI THIS IS MY FIRST CRACK AT THE FORUM AND HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME
PRESENTLY LIVING IN THE PHILIPPINES AND HAVE A 2000 E55 AMG AND A 1970 TRIUMPH TR6 WHICH NEEDS RESTORING (NOT ORIGINAL ENGINE).
THE PRICE I CAN GET FOR THE E55 IS AN INSULT SO HAVE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF SHOVING THE V8 INTO THE FRONT OF THE TR6......
I KNOW THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW TR6 CONVERSIONS USING CHEVY BLOCKS/ROVER V8S AND EVEN SEEN A TR6 WITH AN M3 .....SO I KNOW THE V8/BIGGER ENGINE ROUTE CAN BE TAKEN AND AS I HAVE THE 5.5V8 AMG IT SEEMS A WASTE TO LET THE CAR GO FOR A PITTANCE WHEN I COULD POSSIBLY LOAD UP THE TR6.
IF I AM GOING TO STRIP DOWN THE TR AND DO A REASONABLE JOB IN TIDYING HER UP THEN ITS AN IDEAL TIME TO HAVE A BIT OF FUN GETTING A DECENT MOTOR IN THERE.
IS THIS INSANITY OR A POSSIBLE WORTHWHILE PROJECT?
ALL THOUGHTS / COMMENTS APPRECIATED!!

It sounds like a fantastic idea. I would look at fitting the complete drive train into the chassis with the body off. The TR rear end might handle 250 bhp but not AMG power levels and neither will the suspension. I would then fit the body and modify to suit...
Sounds like a fun project.

TR6 is a reasonable car to do this with - separate chassis makes it much easier to work on.
Working on the assumption that you aren't doing this for the money (it's never worthwhile) then there are a few things to think about.
1. It won't be cheap. If you can weld yourself it might be, but if not you'll need to have quite a bit of work done. That said, labour will be cheaper where you are.
2. as everything is electronic, you'll need to take enough of the wiring loom off the AMG to make the engine and gearbox think they're still in the right car. This will be the tricky bit. You'll need to find someone who has dealt with these electronics before.
3. As well as the engine and gearbox, you'll need the rear axle and propshaft. The shafts will need to be shortened to suit, and you'll need to swap the front and rear hubs to get matching wheels.
4. You'll want to upgrade the brakes and suspension a lot on the TR6 since you'll be looking at a 150% power hike.

Dont ruin a nice E55 for some sorry old TR6.

tty old Merc worth about ten pence with more rot in it than an 80s Transit that has spent its life on the sea putting boats into the water. Onlyy other option is to just scrap the Merc, it's what I would do.Go and have a good look around this site http://www.britishv8.org/ to get an idea of what can be done.

That's a really strange comment. The E55 is an old rusty heap of shoite and built when mercs were at their worst. At best its worth about 26p but the TR is an iconic British motor that needs preserving and not with an engine out of a sorry heap of s
t. Thanks all for the advice and comments - the Merc Body wise is near perfect, no rust at all however the electrics/ecu are starting to play up and its all the small niggly bits on the Merc that really do start to add up. Hence the idea to take out the engine et all and the shell and whats left would still have an instrinsic value rather than flogging the whole thing for a little more and lose the V8.
Shell/Chassis certainly makes the job more feasible hence asking. The V8 website is great too many thanks.
FIred up and already making a few enquiries Will keep all updated and let you know the outcome.
Thanks again all.

I bet the TR6 would be a handful with that V8 fitted!

I would just sell the tr6 and buy more petrol for the AMG!Transferring the engine, gearbox, suspension brakes etc. from the AMG to the tr6 is going to costs a lot of cash and you end up with a worse home made car that's great at burning rubber instead of 2 original cars.
