Garage/unit space to share for tinkering

Evening all

Does anybody do this at all?

I'm looking for a space to store and tinker with my skyline and want to find others that want the same. I suppose a couple like minded guys could split the costs, share tools and knowledge etc. I just don't know where to go about finding this (apart from here, but I thought we all had triple garages on here!)

So any idea where to start looking, or if you have anything of the sort, please give us a shout.

I'm in south east Essex by the way.

Also looking for the same, in Guildford / Woking area if anyone is looking for the same in this area, ideally with secure space for storing and working on racing car/trailer/track car.

I'd love this idea to work but from bitter experience:

When you need the space someone else is wanting it too
Anything you leave in the space will be stolen, abused, damaged
One of you will want it spotless the others will leave it as a tip

Renting one large space and sub dividing it into several lockable spaces could work - but then there is still the division of elec bills etc

Im doing this at the moment between 2 other guys both ive worked with before so do trust each other. Everything is split 3 ways with rent and the electricity is payed by renting out a space to another mate with a mini. We all got keys to the place and come and go as we please as long as we clean up after us and put things away.

What we do is then up to us if thats working on our own car or friends/family's cars just as long as we keep each other informed on our plans so it doesn't end up with everyone doing everything at one time. It's worked so far and it's good to be away from neighbours who want to know what your up to.

But i would be cautions doing it with people i didn't know if it wasn't for the fact that ive worked/working with the 2 other then i wouldn't do it just be careful it could end up in a lot of bother for not a lot of gains. Any other advice wanted then just ask.
