Seen this on a few cars as of late, Audi+BMW, and it looks blutty ridiculous! Is the seat broke or is it some kind of fugly leg comfort extension? Can't see how it could benefit? LOL

The section extends out and provides support for people with long legs.

If, like me, you have long legs, you have to put the seat all the way back. These extendy bits support ones thighs rather nicely.

Really? I'm 6 foot 3" and drove loads of VAG cars, with seat all the way back and never had any comfort issues.

Just found another now, it just looks so bad LOL

This just allows a more comfortable seating position. However it's optional! It will retract if you prefer it with less support.

My Z4 had that and it was great, don't think it looks silly either but maybe I'm just used to it...

I had it in an E60, and it did help me raise up my thighs so my back didnt hurt on longer journeys

This has been around since the 1980s at least, on Recaros. Pretty sure I saw Cosworth Sierras fitted with them.

They are rather a crumb trap. I like to avoid crumb issues by sticking to something substantial like a Yorkie or perhaps Mars Bar.

Recaro did this many moons ago in the ford XR's etc. Was a great place to stash your half rolled spliff if the bobbys were about haha.

I love that style of seat. The support is very welcome - especially if doing decent distances.

The only car I don't have them in is my daily which doesn't have an option of it, mores the pity.

I quite like mine..

1999 E46 328i.

And shockingly enough, if you don't like them, you can retract them!

Quite right in saying they're a major crumb trap, though..
