New to PH.

Anyone with experience of either of these two cars? Really cannot decide which to go for.

Thanks.

Hello & Welcome.

The Ford for me on a purely badge based basis.

Cheers

Mike

Strange selection. Surely the C'eed is a class bigger?

Personally I'd rate Kia above Ford as a manufacturer in terms of build quality and reliability these days, but the Ford probably dives better.

Not driven the Kia but the Fiesta is a great drive and the one I'd go for.

In what way? That's not a statement I thought I'd read on here to be honest so it's quite interesting.

Not really that comparable, the Fiesta is in the class below by comparison. However from an overall package POV based on price and what you get for your money, I'd be picking the Kia myself

Not really a sensible comparison.

Assuming its budgetary you'll get more Ceed than Fiesta for your money.

But in the Ceed's class the focus is a better car.

Budget not the driving factor it's more overall value, reliability, depreciation and running costs. New to the new car purchasing process (despite driving for 15 years) and don't want to get ripped off by dealer especially as cash buying.

I would say the Kia will be better value, but will depreciate more.

If your going to keep it a few years then it shouldn't matter too much when you have a 7 year 100k mile warranty compared to the ford one which I don't know off hand but is less I'm sure.

Also as people say, you are comparing two different classes of car, if they're the same price and you don't specifically want a very small car, I would definatley go with the Kia.

I would estimate very similar running costs / mpg, assuming they have the same size engines.

Fiesta's are surprisingly roomy these days however them ceed's do look very tasty!

Drive both if your unsure! Both under warranty so see what you feel. Ive gone from a Volvo S60 to Fiesta 1.0 and coping really well with the size difference!

So we're coming up with opinions based on what, pictures and on-paper stats?

Me personally I'd have the Kia...but my circumstances and priorities are quite likely to be different to yours... does that help?

I've been in a fiesta (not the brand new one but the previous generation, but I have driven a new corsa which I assume is similar), and whilst they ahve made the "cheap cars" much more modern and decent from a technical standpoint, I could never compare any of them to my old S60 D5!

The noise, the comfort, the A/C, the quality of panels and plastics etc.

They are a lot better these days be you do get what you pay for!

Build quality, reliability, aesthetic appeal, value,... I see Kia as more on a par with Honda and Toyota than Ford, really.

Use of soft plastics, perceived quality or actual risk of things falling off?
Actual risk of things falling off or braking. I don't regularly cuddle my dashboards.

Kia's are not that cheep anymore, Boggo spec 1.4L C'eed is £13,495, the 1.6L Focus Style is £13,795, the Fiesta starts at under £10k
Indeed, but as I said I think the Kia is a better car so if they're the same price, I'd say the Kia is better value.

Im a Ford parts master technician but I also deal with Kia's too for my sins! The new range of Kia's really arent bad. Parts prices can be quite expensive however a lot of people in the trade swear by them! I personally wouldnt own one - I voted with my money and as previously stated actually own a new shape Fiesta.

I guess you have to think if you need the size of the Ceed over the Fiesta - your better off comparing a Rio to a Fiesta to be honest these are more similar in size. The Fiesta is a fun little car to drive - but also very refined on the dual carraigeway - the new higher spec ones have climate control, cruise control, bluetooth and an armrest so are up there with the big boys!

Ive gone from a S60 2.0T to a 2013 Fiesta. The only thing I will say are the seats are very comfortable in the S60 but the Fiesta is more supportive. Its not THAT much quiter at speed being honest, the A/C is no better, and the quality isnt that much different. And it doesnt clonk despite my S60 having the entirity of its suspension changed lol. And it hasnt got the turning circle of a cruise liner.

The S60 is a very good car but again its 2-3 classes above the Fiesta and 1-2 above a Ceed.

OP it all boils down to what you use a car for. If its town with a fair bit of dual carraigeway try a Fiesta. If its dual carraigeway with a bit of town a Ceed may be better suited. Try both! See which you feel is the better pack!

That was really helpful. Good to get someone giving helpful and concise advice. Always terrified of these forums after seeing some harsh comments but everyone so helpful.

I did look at rio too but wasn't sure. Test driving fiesta tomorrow. Just need to sort kia now. Big question is 1.0 or 1.25? We shall see. Thanks for all your help folk.

Not a problem! The 1.25 and 1.0 are very very different engines. The 1.25 is a normal 4 cylinder 16v engine which needs revving to get it to go anywhere - the 1.0 non turbo is useless lol avoid if you can. The 1.0 EcoBoost is awesome! Im biased as I have one - mine is the 125ps which goes like stink, the only thing I can liken it to is driving a diesel. Bags of torque from about 1700rpm but a full rev range that doesnt really tail off. However I warn you - you will not get the economy specified in all the brochures. If you liken it to a 1.4 for the 100ps and to a 1.6 for the 125ps and you should be about right. Zetec spec is fairly good but for toys go for the Titanium if your budget will stretch. Ecoboost engine isnt available on studio or style specs so will have to be Zetec or above.

Hope this helps smile

yes The 1.25 is a good engine, but is getting on a bit now. The 1.0 EcoBoost is very much a modern engine with both the advantages (economy if driven gently, torque, etc) and the disadvantages (turbo-lag, dubious reliability) that that brings.

The Wife has a 2012 Kia Rio and we have had a 2012 fiesta for 10 days when the Rio had to go for some accident repair work, and i have had a current model C'eed as a courtesy car when the Rio has been in for servicing, and have ridden in various previous model C'eed hire cars.

I assume you are comparing the "old" shape C'eed (so pre 2012 my - which i have only sat in as a passenger) as these probably are about the same cost as a Fiesta on Run out pricing?

In size terms the Rio is a fair bit bigger inside than the Fiesta, alright the boot isn't but the cabin feels like a class above size wise. Build quality it feels about the same, both cars use equal amounts of low rent/decent plastics. I like the Rio interior better than the Ford as its somehow more Grown up, also the Toy count is MUCH higher a similar price Fiesta, The fiesta steers much better but the brakes are better on the Kia. The new C'eed is just basically a massive Rio, I didn't think it drove anything other than very average, it was a Diesel of some description in "2" spec and it felt slower than the Rio Diesel Rio we have in "3" spec.

The previous model C'eed is massive compared to a Fiesta, but the design is no where near as good, the interior feels messy and low rent compared to Fiesta, but if you need the space then there is no choice, but i assume you don't or you would be comparing these 2 cars? Again the Toy count is much higher than the Fiesta, and obviously you get the 7 year warranty on the Koreans....BUT (BIG BUT)......

Frankly i Wouldnt buy ANY Kia. The Rio was leased from new and has been no end of trouble, it has been back to the stealers 5 times to fix silly issues, and i am not alone, i recommend you go on the Kia owners club http://www.kiaownersclub.co.uk/ and have a read. Every model is problematic, fuel economy is really wide of teh claims and generally they are pretty crap. Also the dealers are really poor and frankly 1 year into "ownership" i know where all the Alfa dealers from the late 90's now work......

The fiesta seemed to small to me and i would look elsewhere if it was my own money, but depending on your purchase criteria, if this inst an option I would go Ford over KIA everytime given the choice again.

From the 1.0 Ecoboost I have driven turbo-lag is pretty much a non issue
In a car like the Fiesta, I'd be inclined to agree.
