my neighbour is spending his afternoon washing his car by hand

in a torrential downpour

is this normal PH behaviour?

now I mean washing not waxing or polishing

Less mental than youd think lol

If the car needs washing (badly) and it's raining, I get out there and do it.
I don't bother drying it with the chamois for obvious reasons smile

The car being absolutely saturated for a reasonable amount of time before you clean it makes the whole job easier.

I have seen me doing it, usually at the weekend when I have allocated time to do it and its raining.

It just means I don't need to dry it

I've done this before....

In fact I'd say I've gone one step further and washed my car at 5am in the dark (with adequate porch lighting) whilst it was raining so my car didn't look a complete mess for one of the PHSS meets.

Just one of the many joys of being a petrolhead smile

I do it a fair bit. If anything it's better washing it in the rain as the rain water is essentially 'distilled' unlike tap water which leaves smears/ marks if not removed properly /obsessivedetailinggeekmode

I'm not really a car cleaning kind of person, but how can your car need washing so badly you would go out in the rain to wash it?

My cars don't get washed at all between October - May because it's too cold. I don't think that is the typical PH stance though.

Done this many times myself. As others have said,if it just needs a quick wash it saves drying it as the rain wil wash away the tap water leaving it with a perfect finnish. The tap water near me is very hard and if you dont dry the car after washing it can be left looking worse than before you washed it!

Washing it in the rain prevents this. Not as crazy as it seems,if you dont mind getting wet.

I like washing my car by hand but certainly wouldn't be outside in the rain doing it..

I do it all the time. Let the rain soak the dirt, the just a few minutes with a sponge and bucket of bubbles and the car looks like newish again.

As long as the rain water is actually clean, never is where I live.

I've been know to do mine in the rain too.

With time short and so much rain atm if it's filthy I’ll want it washed.

The sane (well sort of!) reasoning being, the dirt has had a pre-soak so comes off easier and the rain prevents any water streaks.

Might seem mad but you can get a sparkling car in half the time. Just don't take it straight out for a drive on wet roads or you've wasted your time!
