Wifey's car has been written off and they'll be coming to get it next week. Irritatingly in a car that has only done 300 miles in the last 2 years the wife decided to put £25/£30 of unleaded in it a few days before the accident. The Inurers and salvage people won't be interested in the fuel (in fact it may well be a disposal issue).

So how do I get the fuel out and store it - I only have 2 x 5 litre petrol cans and not that I know where it is now but somewhere I have one of those cheapo syhons with a pump/bulb on the top and 2 plastic tubes running from the top. I seem to recall there might even be difficulty getting a tube down into the tank (MK3 Fiesta)

So chaps and chapesses can some one point me in the right direction or even help in North Cardiff??

If it is going in the crusher can't you just jab a few holes in the tank from below somewhere / through bodywork?

Fluid Extractor, Pela or something from Machine Mart unless you fancy going all 'Speed' and launching a screwdriver through the tank

ETA - I took a tank off an RS Turbo, once the rear seats were off it was fairly simple, about 6 screws and should take about 15 mins

Find the fuel filter and either remove it and stick the pipe in your jerry can or cut the pipe somewhere, then just put a live to the petrol pump somewhere easy to access in the loom... which iirc is under the back seats if you lift them up.

Step 1 Cut the pipe going to the fuel rail
Step 2 put in jug
Step 3 switch on ignition
If fuel flows no problem if not

Find fuel pump relay and jam it on

Been years since I've played with one but I think the fuel filters on the wing near the battery and just has push clips on the pipe, can't remember how long the pipe is though.

I disconnected the fuel line near the throttle body and poked the end into a jerry can. Then I found the fuel pump relay and shorted the permanent +12v to the fuel pump +12v... 5 or 6 minutes later I'd pumped out over 30L.

As to the best place to put the fuel, it's probably in your car.

This sounds like a fairly simple way of doing it, if you can get something suitable to decant the petrol into beneath the car. It's the way the scrotes do it now that most fuel filler caps have an anti-siphoning device on them.
