Thinking about alfas today I was reminded of a topic that menitioned how they only have 2 cars in their current range. Decided to have a fiddle on their site and noticed that it costs £1750 to spec the 8C red onto a giulietta.

Are there any other manufacturers that have ridiculous prices for an optional paint colour? Or just options in general. I'd imagine hypercar manufacturers would, but are there any on more normal-ish cars?

When I was looking at ordering a Clio 200, the only options I wanted were the two most expensive ones frown recaros and liquid yellow paint.

The paint was £1350 iirc.

It was £15k.

Ouchy. But liquid yellow is THE colour to have a sporty Renault though.

Expensive, but hardly a run of the mill car!

£1750 for leather on a GT86.

That may not sound a lot to some but the leather is just a little bit stitched on the side bolsters and covering the original fabric seat.

A second hand dealer once tried to convince me that the Imola Orange S2000 they had in stock, was priced high, due to the fact the colour was a 'rare, premium colour from Honda - costing £3000 extra new'!!!.

It turns out it was a £750 cost over standard.

It is a nice colour indeed, but I don't see how paint can be that much. Especially the 8C paint!

You are of course quite correct cool

It was standard on the trophy but the Ultimate Silver on a Nissan GTR costs £1400.

The stripes on Scuderia cost £4500 though so that kinda puts it in perspective.

I can't see why anyone would pay £1400 for silver on the GTR, it's the worst colour imo.

Always remembered carbon-ceramic brakes being horrendously expensive. Granted, you wouldn't find them on a Kia Rio, but they're an awful lot to spec up on an RS4 or a 3.6 base-spec 911.

In-built satnav is often a massive ripoff as well. I've seen receipts for £2,000 for a basic sat nav that costs £55 for an update DVD every year.

Very true, but why is it nearly £9k to paint a car a certain colour? I mean it does come with paint as standard, so asking £9k for a special colour seems incredible!

Ouch!

It's the definitive colour for me, loved mine.

In this month's Evo mag, Harry Metcalfe quotes £11,040 for paint, £10,128 for leather and £7872 for a premium stereo for a Ferrari FF. I know that this is a premium product, but wow!! The stereo alone cost more than my last car..

I know it's not a normal car but most popular option on ONE77 was £50k for rose gold switchgear. Some run of the mill AUdis have £8k+ leather options. B&O stereo is over £5k in an Audi Q7...

Sat nav.

As on option its usually very expensive, and doesn't work very well. My brother paid £1500 for it on his car, and he ended up buying a Tom Tom to use instead.
