Another what car... Reliable Diesel 7-seater for 8k
Discussion
As per the title... basically I need a new car, and between my wife and I have 4 kids (which might increase in future).
I do about 20k per year, so it's got to be a diesel - preferably getting around 50mpg (but I'm happy to drive like my gran to get that), again, with the mileage I need something that's going to be reliable and if I can get at least 2 years warranty I'll be happy; ultimately the car has to last at least 4 years with the smallest chance of getting any big scary bills.
I've looked at the S-max, but with the 8k budget I'm looking at older high mileage models with limited warranty protection; had a Zafira as a hire car last year and that was OK, but a friend just spent 2.5k on her avg. mileage 56 plate which has put me off.
Toyota Verso - not sure if the rear seats might be too small - that said, when we are 6-up it's not usually to go too far, and if I can get a couple of years from the remainder of the warranty I might be able to stretch the budget for a bit of peace of mind.
Also condsidering the Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - I can get everything in budget bar a warranty beyond a year... slight concern about reliability, but I haven't heard anything specifically bad about them and with the 1.6 diesel it returns some crazy MPG figures for a people carrier.
Still to look at: Mazda5, Seat Alhambra, VW Touran
I know I can buy aftermarket warranties, but I'd rather find the money up front and get a better car. Like I said , budget is ideally 8k - could be stretched *a bit* but for that I'd want a longer warranty to guard against any big bills in the next couple of years (which are going to be expensive enough anyway).
So have I missed anything? Anyone have anything useful to point out about any of the suggestions so far?
Thanks, CH
