'What Company Car' - Cheapest 4x4
Discussion
So I get a company car allowance. I've always just taken the cash but for a change feel like getting a new car. We have a few different cars but something we don't have is a 4x4....yes I know it's only once a year I'll use it blah blah.
So it has to be:
1). 4x4
2). Cheap as possible (so I don't have to contribute much)
3). Below 160 g/km emissions (as I'm not allowed anything above...and the lower the better the BIK is)
4). Gets good MPG
5). Can be a 'traditional' 4x4 or just an AWD saloon\estate
The list of manufacturers I have on offer are the following:
Audi
BMW
Ford
Honda
Lexus
Mercedes
Mini
Renault
Toyota
Vauxhall
VW
Volvo
Without going through the painful website which takes an age to load the spec sheet of every variation of every car, who does 4x4's in the above range for cheapness? Strangegly, contribution doesn't always follow list price exactly - so once it's been narrowed down I will start playing with the figures and report back!

I thought that criteria and manufacturer list looked familiar. So it has to be:

And then looking at your Occupation, I think we probably work for the same company.

And the lex said about the painful website, the better...... ;-)
From the available list, I had only narrowed it down to a Tiguan (Lack of power put me off), Kuga (Not quite big enough for me) and the X3 (Silly contribution for anything above base spec)
TBH, with the CO2 restriction (Most of the 4x4s seem to just eke in at 159g CO2/km), the contribution I would have had to pay on top of the allowance and then the BIK on top for anything remotely "interesting" from the list, I decided to still take the allowance and get my own car.
As the username and profile pic suggest, I ended up with a Sportage KX-4. Plenty of toys and a 181bhp diesel, and I'm quite happy that I did.
Of course, the KX-2 (134bhp 2.0 Diesel) starts at £23K
OK, you don't get the insurance and servicing paid for, but for me it was an easy choice, and in my mind still worked out as cheap as getting the company car.
IMHO, unless you're getting an eco-spec MINI or similar, you are unlikely to gain much by getting the company car.
