Two petrol staions close to me offer cheap fuel.

Morrisons @ £1.29.9

ASDA @ £1.29.7

With morrisons you get to collect points on a card and when you reach 5000 they give you a £5 voucher to spend instore.

I can't seem to find anywere online to say how many points per litre you get so unable to work out which is the cheaper in the long run.

Anyone know which is cheaper?

I could be wrong though

Don't forget to use your Santander 123 credit card to get 3% cashback on fuel.

That makes the effective price 126.0p/l smile.

(There is a £2/mth fee, but it's more than worth it for me.)

You can also get an aquacard to get the same % but on everything and no fee. Great card right now :-)

I wouldn't use either!! In my experience, the MPG from supermarket fuel is somewhat lower than from premium fuel, such that the percentage cost saving is more than wiped out by the percentage loss in MPG. Nothing scientific, just personal observation. Tesco seems to be the worse IMHO, even the Diesel! Tesco Diesel also seems to take the edge off the performance as well.

I wouldn't use them either, and would try and locate the closest Shell garage.

This exactly. I pay about 50p a tank more for a quality product. In return I get more mpg, better performance and peace of mind knowing my dpf isn't going to expire prematurely.

I know which fuel really is cheaper in The long run.

Cheers, so every 5 litres of fuel at ASDA will save you 1 pence. (5 x 0.2p) and every 500 litres will save you a £1 so the 500 litres at morrisons will net you the £5 voucher.

Have i done that right?

Was just curious as to which worked out the better.

My clio preferes the momentum/V power anyway so i have to laugh

I assume it wasn't for you then? smile
It always amazes me how many people you see with expensive high powered (and expensive to insure) cars who use crap fuel to save a few pence but knock the edge off their performance.

Come on people, I know its been done to death, but really all petrol is the same...

It's just branding and forecourt management (i.e. screwups) that vary IMO

i can only comment on diesel, but shell always gets me more mileage per tank, and a smoother engine

I always fill my 330i to the brim and run it down to when the light comes on so I can track the MPG consistently.

My type of driving doesnt really change from week to week so I'm always comparing like for like.

Did an experiment a few weeks ago where I filled up with "premium" 98 RON fuel rather than the standard stuff

Result ? cost me about £3 more for the tankful and the MPG was exactly the same.

Either the BMW 3.0 engine doesnt respond well to it or its a scam IMO.

Knowing how the oil industry likes to rip off its customers I'd be more inclined to think its a scam.

I used to run a diesel Mondeo on Morrisons stuff (because it was across the road from the office and I was lazy). I was putting in approx 130 quid a month and getting a voucher about as often, maybe every five weeks?

Now have a different car which gets Shell or similar.
