Hi all,

Long time lurker of PH. Decided to finally sign up and post my first question as I can’t seem to find the answer anywhere else.

Basically, I’ve always been quite keen on the idea of a personalised plate so in the recent DVLA auction I finally bought one. My question is simple:

Once the entitlement form has arrived, I’ve taken it with V5 and tax disc to DVLA office and received new tax disc in return, can I put the plates on and legally drive before my V5 has arrived back?

Thanks in advance!

Yes you can.

Don't forget to tell your insurance company!

If you have got the letter of authorisation to make up the new plates then they should be fitted straight away.

Brilliant. Thank you!

I suppose to follow up: it is just the cert of entitlement, the V5, MoT and the tax disc that I need to take with me right? Most sources online say so, however always worth checking!

You don't even need to take the tax disc. A photocopy will suffice.

Just remember that when the time comes that you decide to sell the car it's a 1-2 week process to remove the plate so plan ahead.

Thanks a lot!

Fortunately for me the car is only a 106 GTi. I'm currently getting finances in order for the next car (so the Peugeot is just holding the plate in the meantime). I've had the 106 for seven years and still love it. I'm going to keep it until it dies as it's worth arse end of bugger all these days.
