Evening all

im getting bored of sifting through countless KA's and fiestas, and was wondering

does this exist?

35+ MPG
simple reliable petrol engine, that i can service and look after fairly easily
a nice place to be (ill be doing 500-1000 miles a week, cant be dealing with a tatty interior
potential to waft/be shut up in 5th/6th at 70-80 on a motorway and just get on with it
not a complete slouch, nothing stupid, just enough
something that isn't crashy, bumping through pot holes destroy my life
relatively cheap to repair consumable stuff
if at all possible, something a little interesting! (not a biggie if not)

and all this decent'ness and cheap as possible!

thanks and good luck!
john

'relatively cheap'. Going to have to quantify that.

Perhaps a petrol corolla from 02-onwards.

You have not said a budget but 1998-2002 French saloons with a 2.0 petrol might fit the bill

sorry didnt quantify price: as close to a grand as possible! want to cut down £££ tied up in the car

passat diesel - had thought about them, just scared of the milage, i know people say they'll go starship miles, but it just worries me
406 diesels - again, similar to passat stuff!

micra - to small i think! are they abit crashy too?

I don't think he will get 35mpg + out a 2 litre petrol.

Alfa 147 fills all those requirements as well as being cheap. They handle well and are well appointed too.

Honda Accord.....Volvo S60/S80.....VW Passat.....Citroen C5....BMW E46.....Toyota Camry.....Audi A6.

Theres lots of car available that fit your criteria. smile

Just saw your budget, sorry! I would go with a diesel avensis, diesel Mondeo or a 2.0 petrol Accord for that budget (98-03). You will get about 30mpg average out of the Accord though.

I used to get 36 out of 1.6 petrol 307 mixed driving. I would hope that 2.0 would achieve similar. If the op is doing up to 1000 miles a week I would assume this is mainly motorway?

it would be fairly motorway/a road based. Its in south wales with connections to london and birmingham. so alot of m4/m5/m50, then all the connecting welsh roads, so a real mix of both. Example; i did 150 miles a day last week and didnt go near a motorway, then 60 the next day of 90% motorway. So a really well rounded car would be good.
