Can't sleep and not in the greatest of moods so have just spent two really quite good hours driving around the M25. Wouldn't say I plan on making it a weekly jaunt but far better than I was expecting.

Anyone else got similar silly driving for sts and giggles tales?

I have driven up to the green welly stopat tyndrum before (about 2 hours away) because I fancied an ice cream.

Got bored one afternoon, drove to Kansas, had a pee, came back. 360 miles, 5 hour round trip; another state off the list.

In a similar fashion, went to Nebraska to go shopping. 360 miles again, about 7 hours.

There was a thread many moons ago that posed the question 'could you lap the M25 in under an hour?'

Having ambled around it at possibly it's quietest time OP, what do you think?

There was much heated debate as I recall.

I took an 0400 drive down half of the M20 the other night after having too much sleep after finishing my night shifts. That was a pleasant drive, just me and a smattering of trucks along the whole length I drove.

If only all roads were like that all the time!

Average speed of 117mph shouldn't be too difficult. I suppose Dartford would be the issue.

if you had the tank range, do it on a bike and duck under the barriers

Or start/finish at the toll booths and then they aren't such a problem.

I'm going to recall a case of Lonman/Simon Kenworthy who claimed to have lapped the M25 in some stupidly quick time. I think it was 53 minutes but I'm struggling to remember the details.

We've been asking the lap time question for many a year.

yes I drive from the M23 to M20 every morning, always looks like hell on the opposite carriageway. Oh and the Dartford crossing seems to close every time anyone even looks at it funny.

You would lap it a bit quicker if you were an OLM yes

Why not just wait until they lifted?

Every now and again I have a job that starts at 0600 in Bayswater on a Sunday. It's only a 5 mile drive from SW London but it like my own personal racetrack with a few wandering taxis waiting to be lapped. Takes about 10 mins door to door.

Try the same thing on a Monday morning around 0730 and it will take an hour at least with no free parking at the end.

Drove round the M25 for fun.

I put that same category as people who nail their scrotum to the table for a kick.

I haven't done the latter but as a way of driving relatively fast in sections and getting something out of your system, it was actually quite enjoyable.

If I ever feel the urge to do the latter I will post a comparison.

Went over the B974 to get petrol when I drove past 3 stations on the way to that road. It's just so good! cloud9
