So if you have an *inferior* car and you are traveling along the motorway, overtake a BMW and see how long it is before they overtake you back.

Does this work with audi's too?

My cruising speed is determined by how much of a hurry I'm in, and how much I care about burning fuel that week. Not what any other tosser does..

My cruising speed is determined by that and by whatever I have set the cruise control to, in conjunction with the road conditions.

OP: Have you considered that the driver of the BMW might have been holding back until you passed so he could determine if you were an unmarked police car or not? That's the sort of thing I might do if I were attempting to make progress.
To your eyes that behaviour might look like me not wanting to be overtaken by an inferior car; actually I couldn't give a toss what make any car is, I just care it's capable of safely going the speed it's going: I've no problem with a well-driven fast skoda for example. A 90mph defender on the other hand, would not be appropriate.*
If there's something behind me that might be traffic police, I'll let it go past to get a good look at the car, the inside of the car, and the driver (unmarked cars are driven by uniformed officers). This particularly applies at night as it's really hard to determine from the lights what sort of car is behind you (unmarked cars are hardly ever smaller than midsize saloons but of course you can't tell those from the lights in the dark).

*Apologies to any defender drivers reading, esspecially ones with tuned cars

Its just something i've done in the past and noticed. Its probably completely coincidental, but I had to wonder if there was any chance of it.
For the record i've never driven or owned a BMW so i'm not on an anti BMW tirad, just a bit of humour/satire? if you can call it that.

The policeman and policewoman that stopped me several years ago were in civvies. I'd clocked them several iles back and discounted their Vectra as they were not wearing any uniform. Well unless they choose to wear pink woolly pullovers as uniform in the case of the female.
