Have never posted something reviewing a product or service before, but really felt i should after the incredibly positive experience i received using my local branch or Webuyanycar.

I received 95% of the online quotation value, and the chap working there did all he could to prove my service history was "full" instead of "part" as i had pessimistically declared. He was fully aware of the public image of the company and mentioned some of the changes they are trying to make to improve their reputation.

It really did only take 30 mins, and a lot of that was spent chatting trackdays etc with the guy.

So while you could argue they still dont pay "top whack", in my experience they paid the online price, and were very pragmatic about the condition of the car given age etc. It was also really hassle free. I would strongly recommend them.

I promissed the chap in the branch i would spread the good word, but its so easy to say and then never bother that i really felt i should post this here before too much time passes and i fail to keep my word. I know i would certainly check the value they quote online before i sell my next car.

Im sure the man was as sound as they come, however I still think i'd need to be pretty desperate to use them.

I reckon any quote ive had is around 10% short on trade and about 20% off retail (selling private) value.

I've never understood why they get slated for offering less than trade/retail price?

Surely that's their whole business model and effectively what they are offering as a service?

i.e. when you see the ad etc you must realise that a company willing to pay cash for almost any car and remove all the hassles etc is not going to pay top dollar... I actually think if I built a company like this it would be even less than 10% off of the trade in values ? And I am pretty sure in a lot of cases it will be with WBAC (less desirable cars etc).

Rest assured those that have sold them cars and felt they have gotten a bad deal - they will only trade the car on at a slightly higher price... i.e. they aer not the ones selling it at retail prices...

To me the best thing about the wbac price- if I was to sell privately (which I am loathe to do now adays) - is that you can send the link to any low ball text offers.

Not 10% less trade in, 10% less selling direct to trade, for cash.

There prices in my opinion are abysmal.

My experience was also pretty good. After trying to sell a car with a 5.5 litre engine just as the recession was taking hold and having had no decent private offers, I didn't want to hold on to the car any longer. They did the usual bodywork scans and did offer me slightly less than the price on the website but it was an easy transaction.

As I understand it, the criticism has been that you can be as accurate as possible, and receive a value.

Then when you take the car they do their utmost to reduce the value even further. And then give you a 49.99 admin fee. And then a bank processing fee. And then something else.

I've not used them and have no experience of them, just what I've read.

And interestingly they seem to be combating that reputation - good to hear and good for them smile

Ultimately there's a final price they offer and you have the option to accept or decline. Easy. It's the frustrating way they get to that which put people off, I believe.

I advertised my focus ST3 for sale a few years ago, totally mint and had it up for £13500, one viewing and I dropped the price to £12500 after a couple of months as I needed to sell the car, it was one of the cheapest on sale and more than likely the best condition on sale (12k miles) and looked after meticulously.

Just hardly any interest. I checked on WBAC and they offered me the £12500 I was after if I was to sell privately, took the car there and all was paid and done in 30-40 mins. As I had described the car accurately they had nothing to add to try and chip money off their online quote and all went smoothly.

The right car and described fully and correctly has the potential for a much more hassle free transaction than a private sale.

Ask them about a TVR or similar and expect a silly price as its not the sort of car the are looking to buy.

I had a good experience anyway although I`m sure plenty are put out with what they feel is a lowball offer for a particular car.

I agree, the pleasant suprise to me was that, despite my car not being prestine (tidy, but not prestine), no additional deductions were made from the website quote. It was a very realistic expectation of the vehicle quality for the age.

Oh, yeah, re the fees, for some reason he waived them! NFI why. Maybe it's the way I fluttered my eyelashes.

Got you thats a different story... and if they consistently did that - then its false advertising but this does not sound to be the case in the examples of people I know who have used them. The fees are pretty clear on their website but reducing the value a lot over things that are accurately described would be a no no.

But that said - the whole slating of them for this practice - is it one of those things that the internet could be very good at misrepresenting thereby creating a false impression?

For example - if you got a car quoted on WBAC and the person showed up and paid pretty much quoted price you're hardly going to come onto a forum with that piece of non news as a story ? Its only if the person tried to rip you off would you come on and complain right?

I appreciate this company has changed somewhat - I used them to help my gf sell her mums car and this was in the day when they actually came to see the car rather than force you to some depot -> they paid exactly what they had quoted even though we were missing the spare key.

Anyways - I don't want to sound like I am promoting them but I don't think they need to be slated as much as they are...

They pretty much do what they say on the tin...

That's true of all businesses though - people will rarely comment on good service, but will frequently comment on bad.

If they are offering 10% less than trade I would not call that abysmal. Trade is what the car is worth to a garage/trader who actually wants to buy the car - to get the trade value you could spend time hawking it round garages who may or may not be interested in giving you book for it, or put it in an auction (trade less auction fees), or take trade less a bit for a quick sale via WBAC. They offer a service and they do not force people to use them - my only gripe would be if they inflate their offers to get people in, and then chip them back when you turn up.
