Evening all.

I've got an Impreza P1, currently making about 340bhp and in the process of having a 2.5 400bhp/400lbft built. Should be complete by April. Car will be around 1300kg.

The car is on wintrac extremes at the moment and I'm looking for a good weather tyre for fast-road use and occasional track days (say 5 or 6 per year).

Any suggestions? Size might be an issue: 215x40r17 or 205x45r17.

R1R?
a048?

Cheers,
Iain

Federal RSR, or though really more of an out an out track tyre.

Thanks chaps. Have you used those tyres? If so, on what car?

I use Federal RSR - Camskill are the cheapest.
A great tyre, better than 888s
However you need to get heat into them.
So OKish on a coldish day, but no where near as good as a high end road tyre such as a Goodyear F1.
On a dry road and on a track RSRs are great.

Nothing to compare it against really, but I thought the Hankook R-S2 was really good (as long as there was no standing water) and used to be good value.

Assuming you do Knockhill trackdays and you have a 2nd set of wheels

On one set of wheels mount a reasonable all rounder of a tyre and on the first trackday of the year get a nice man called Ronnie to supply you with some AO48s
and fit them onto the rims you have your winter tyres. At the end of the season do the reverse

R1R, fantastic on track and in the wet on the road.

Is a great all rounder but not 888 good on track, but then in turn an 888 isnt as good as many of the R tyre alternatives either.

AO48s are epic in the dry but a real handful in the wet/standing water. Contactsport 3s are good for road but would be limited on track, have you considered getting a second set of cheap scruffy rims for the trackwork and shod them in specialist rubber?

I must admit, I thought these would be perfect. What car do you have them on?

I've got a set of these too - however they do come with stickers warning you they're unsuitable for use in low temps ( 0deg C and below )

Thanks, not concerned about cold temps - will be keeping the winters for use nov-mar!

Back to thinking about high-end road tyres, I dug out evo 175 for the 2012 tyre test. Pirelli p-zero won hands-down.

AD08s seem to be the best bet for a dual purpose tyre. Good levels of grip as to be expected from the 180 treadwear marker, but yet they actually wear like a much, much harder tyre.

The other suggestions will be shredded in no time at all.

Why such skinny tyres on a Scoob anyway? I thought those things were all about grip?

They are all about the grip! Just good suspension setup and geo. classic Impreza is light too, my p1 is 1240 IIRC.
