The GF picked up her GT86 at the weekend... brand new etc - however the salesman was "Only allowed to put £15 of fuel in the tank."

I was pretty gobsmacked TBH - surely that's the least they can do when you are paying £26k+?

Or am I waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind the times?

That thread about the Ford Capri Invoice, the full tank of fuel was on the receipt...

Was it negotiated as part of the deal?

If not I certainly wouldn't expect it, you don't get freebies when buying any other goods from a pint of milk to a house.

I always thought the 'go on throw a tank a fuel in' or 'go on, I'll throw a tank of fuel in' was a bargaining thing, not to be expected, then again I've never bought a car so what do I know

Exactly. I only do it for a customer if they negotiate it/ask for it as a sweetener to close a deal.

We're not in the game of putting £65+ worth of fuel in every car we sell.

Its certainly not to be expected! The factory put in enough fuel to get it onto the truck, and sometimes not even off at the other end. It all comes out of the dealers pocket.

Let me guess, you haggled on price, didnt take paint protection or GAP, and still want more from the dealership?

When you go and buy a loaf of bread next time, are you going to be disappointed it didnt come with butter? No, you buy that as you want it!

What a laughable comparison.

Ever been to a hotel and got free food in the room?
Ever bought a magazine with a free CD on the front?
Ever bought a house and been left a bottle of wine by the previous occupant?

Some odd people on this thread.

When I worked for main dealers the approach was always pay list and get a full tank. Negotiate a discount and get a few quids worth to get you off the forecourt.

I have never heard of and would never expect a dealer to provide a full tank. 50 miles worth maybe.

When Dad last bought a new car (this was a while ago, mind) it came with a full tank of fuel. I always thought it was the norm! That, and mats and flaps wink

Having sold houses for 4 different house builders - NO you don't.

They are built to the spec and that's it - want another plug socket £50-90 etc

I used to work for a BMW dealership and in March 2008 it was decided to reduce the fuel in a new car from a full tank to half a tank. Maybe it's even less now.
