A "normal" amount to spend on fuel these days each month?

morning all
noticed my current account was a bit dry this morning, checked my statements and I had given Mr Shell £313 last month for his v powers.
I'm in shock to be honest, I thought I went once a week and spent roughly £50, so £200 a month! Guess not.
How do you compare?

I spend a lot more than that
Business spend is around £200-250 per week - split between 3 company vehicles (two vans and a car - all small diesel engines).
Personal spend on the Merc, is around £60 per week, and in the summer it costs £160 to fill the Stag and Jensen with V-Power, which probably lasts 2 weeks if the weathers good and they're being used.

£160 minimum a month if I don't use the car at the weekends..
2009 Audi A3 2.0 TDi 170, 20 miles per day, 5 days a week.
Book says 56mpg.. load of crap!! Be lucky to see 40mpg!
Not surprising really. A commute that short needs a small petrol-engined car to be economical.2009 Audi A3 2.0 TDi 170, 20 miles per day, 5 days a week.

Basically, you bought the wrong car.
20 miles a day x 253 working days (in 2013) = 5,060 miles worth of commuting.
My commute is 45 miles in total, every day.
I average 53mpg, out of an old diesel French car. Approx. 2 tanks worth will last 4 weeks, so I spend between £170-200 a month on fuel.

A few year's back I worked out I was filling my Saab 9-5 twice most weeks, once to cover the commute to work (5x 25miles each way) and then again at the weekend as I'd often go to a race meeting or visiting friends/family that was the best part of 100 miles each way.
So at between 6 and 8 fills a month at around £50 a go (year 2000-ish prices), no wonder I was skint, I dread to think about doing it at 2013 prices.
Now I tank of dull diesel often last 2 or 3 weeks
