Cheap run-about suggestion

Could anyone give me some suggestions and preferably links to some cars which would be good as a run-about. My mum is looking for something which is cheap to buy, reliable and cheap to run (economical) to use daily. Her current cheap runabout is starting to die, so a replacement is needed.

Budget: Up to £1500
Mileage: Ideally nothing which is over 90,000 miles.

Even better if it's a diesel.

K11 Micra. £1500 will buy the best of the last from 2002 with air con etc. very cheap to run and reliable

classic fiesta (bargain insurance and cheap & easy to fix, and a bit different)

If she isnt doing more than 10k per year then why go diesel?
If a derv it is then defo the 106 but id have a 1.0 suzuki alto,ive got one and its ace n averages 50mpg with me ragging it in the winter.
