I saw one of these today http://mg.co.uk/6-magnette/ it looked quite smart, if slightly bland in blue. Is it just a Chinese Rover 75?

Not a 75 - a completely new car. They come pre-manufactured from China, and are completed at Longbridge.

The main carry over was the engine, a reworked K series with a turbo - they have proved reliable. They've recently launched the diesel too.

That'll be the one they've managed to sell.

Or perhaps it was just the demonstrator...

yes the evolution of the K-series is called the N-series.

The diesel version got a lot of praise from Steve Cropley in Autocar. They might not be flying off the forecourts like Vauxhalls, but I am seeing far more of them than I used to. I think they're nice cars. I'd have one.

i think they leased a load to Avis in exchange for a some loose change - picked one up at Aberdeen airport last October for a few days in the Highlands. the interior was a bit low rent and only having a 5 speed box seemed a bit backward in that class of car but it rode, steered and handled beautifully - nicely set up. i thought it would make a nice 'left field' choice instead of an Astra or Focus.
