Passat estate vs, A6 Avant
Discussion
I've had a couple of A6s in the past (OK, one was a 100... I'm old
) and curently thinking about getting another one (I like an estate now I'm old, and my E46 325 touring is a little small for powerfully built me).
I know the Octavia, Passat and A6 are all bilt on the same platform; the Octavia is clearly less nice inside than the Audi, but is there any great reason to discount the Passat? A quick flick through Autotrader suggests you get a lot more for your dosh with a VW badge on the front instead of the 4 rings...

Octavia is a Golf floorpan, Passat is a passat obviously, and an A6 is different again. Passats have transverse mounted engines, A6s are longitudinal.
I have a 2000 A6 1.9 TDI, very good economy and performance still, but the electrical stuff like door mechs etc are starting to give trouble. Build quality feels very high.

Which generation Octavia, Passat or A6? The Octavia has always been Golf platform. The older Passats are older A4 platform, the newer Passats are stretched Golf platform. I'm not sure how closely related the A6 platform is to the A4, but I expect they've got a lot in common.
FWIW I had a first generation Octavia for 8 years and it was great! Mine was the hatch, but there's not much less space than in the estate, and all you stuff is safely hidden away under the parcel shelf.
