Look into an EGR valve delete kit and K&N panel filter for further increases. You'd probably be looking at a hybrid turbo to reach 200bhp though, which isn't cheap.
I'm sure the anti-diesel brigade will be along shortly to tell you you're evil and to just set fire to it though.
Very true im sure there is an anti-diesel brigade on here lolI'm sure the anti-diesel brigade will be along shortly to tell you you're evil and to just set fire to it though.
Brother has a MkIV Golf 130 which until recently was running 245bhp with a hybrid turbo etc. (Allard Motorsport's own development car). It was utterly bonkers fast through the mid-range - would leave my 3.0 X-type far too easily
But, it would eat clutches and was a bit of a bugger to drive smoothly.
He's sold the turbo and gone back to a standard remapped set up to make it more usable. Now at about 170-180 or similar and quite happy

Im in similiar situation albeit i havnt remapped yet due being a whimp and being unsure whether its advised i upgrade any other parts before doing so, i was considering a k04 turbo conversion with all relevant accesories as reasonable price (with labour included) ,
My questions are as follows:
Would this be a good choice in upgrade to increase performance or there better alternatives?
and
Would adding an intercooler with this setup likely to make a large impact on performance?
any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks

I've got the fabia vrs, same engine etc etc. But I personally wouldn't bother putting all that money into tuning past 180hp. Even standard it can rip up the tires in 3rd in the wet. A front mounted inter cooler can cost like 700 quid, turbo 500, another remap 300 and so on. Keep it at 180 and save clutches!!
How about something more PH....
1) Tyres - what sort are you using
2) suspension - is it standard how many thousands of miles
3) bushes - as suspension
4) brakes as above
5) geometry - factory? close to factory , all over the place? Having the toe/camber adjusted can make a big difference.
6) anti roll bars
I have sampled a fair few mk4 and I can assure you a standard model with good tyres, suspension, brakes will easily be more rewarding than having another 50hp but only be able to use it in the straight.
That or keep the Golf standard and opt for a second cheap hot hatch but be aware that after factoring in Tax, MOT, insurance , running costs having two cars rarely makes sense when it comes to saving money.
