lamborghini hire risks

hi all.

i hope this is a right place to post this.

i am thinking of hiring a super car( gallardo or 430) and understand that i need to be minimum of 25 and leave a deposit of 3500 to 5000. i will get 100 miles in the car

i am happy to do this but just need to know what are the risks or in another word what can the deposit be used against . if the car was scratched or stolen overnight from my place, what do i have to do ?

wouldnt it just be more beneficial to ring the companies to get more info and quotes etc? seems a lot of money for 100 miles.

5k deposit, he'll get that back providing the car is returned undamaged.

Just the deposit, you get it back if you return the car undamaged. Its normally their insurance excess

It will be the insurance excess.

So the car gets stolen, you will need to pay the £5k.

If you get a scratch you probably won't pay that much. Obviously if the scratch is quite big, and it would need some panel repairs on, chances are it's going to be pretty high due lambo parts being expensive.

5K as insurance excess? someone with that amount of money to lose if the car gets bashed could probably afford a ferrari or lambo. Also why doesn't anybody seem to do 'sports car hire' i.e. not ferrari's or anything as they are supercars, but what about lotus elise, Mx-5, BMW Z's, S2000's, Caymans, Boxters etc?

If that's the case, why you don't rent a race car for a full day at the track? You can get a Porsche GT3 for like £2000 for a full day at the track. Way better than limiting yourself to 100 miles with a speed camera every 2 minutes.

Any one who runs a track day toy worth more than £5k without track insurance is taking a bigger financial risk. Doesn't mean they could all afford lambos/ferraris.

I'd be happy to lay out £5k insurance for a hire car if I was pretty certain I'd get it back. If I thought I'd get screwed for picking up a stone chip, then I wouldn't. I think the OP is in the same place.

sadly even 5k goes absolutely nowhere on repairing a lambo

you need to check out the cost or kerbing a wheel, someone heavily touch parking you, hitting a pot hole, even a good door ding. get the hirer to note down every single knock/scratch before you sign for it !

it may be more of a liability keeping it overnight. will it fit in your garage ? even get up your drive ? if you leave it outside, then it will attract attention

finally, you need more miles. 100 is less than two hours driving ( unless you just hang around in town ) and not enough to scratch the itch, get used to it and relax, maybe not even enough to find more than a couple of stretches of open road

I drove a 430 outside the Ferrari factory in Maranello. Excess was 10000euros. kerb a wheel was 1200 euros, puncture 500

Unless you are pretending the car is yours, to impress a girl or take her out or something... what is the point?

It seems a complete waste of money for a petrol head to rent a supercar which will obviously be driven too fast, possibly resulting in loss of license, risk of accident, death, etc...or driven slowly as you are worried about the 5k deposit. Sounds stressful and pointless 100 miles will either be very boring to savour each mile, stressful watching the milometre counting away or drive so quick, risk getting nicked, crashing and 100 miles done in 1 hour or so.
