Hello Guys
I wen to fill up at my local petrol station. I tried fuelling up but for some reason the pumps were not working, the checkout worker at the station was ignoring all the other customers aswel as myself. He was refusing to turn on the pumps as he was cashing up. I then went to leave the petrol station and stupidly drove off while the nozzle was still in the car. The nozzle and pump came out and it also bent the pump.

I left my details as the manager was not there and just the checkout worker. Would anybody know what wild happen next? Can they claim off my insurance?

Thanks
Walter

Nice one Felipe. wink

My guess is that they will send you a bill which you can forward to your insurance company. Since you did the damage with your car then they should cover it as a third party claim.

Let insurance handle it.

You might want to inform them.

So... Lets get this straight.

You drove in.
You put nozzle into filler.
Cashier didn't authorise the pump for whatever reason.

You got annoyed / frustrated / red mist / forgot.

You drove away with nozzle attached.

Yikes..... ?

demand a copy of the cctv and send it to you've been framed.

the money will help soften the blow of an increased insurance premium!

So does Ralphie have a 'beard'? It's just that I saw him in the Cote d'Azur once with what looked suspiciously like a wife and kids?

He is married and has kids, yes.

Assuming that there wasn't a fire... etc, I expect they'll just write it off as wear and tear. It would cost them more to hire someone specifically to pursue this claim against you - it's a numbers game, and it just doesn't happen frequently enough to be worth their time chasing you down for compensation.

sorry, but i had a good old rofl

you will get a bill and it will be a lot more than you think

probably in the thousands

pass it onto insurance, but you will definitely get shafted with your quote next year

i'm afraid it's a lose lose situation

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.

I guess it went something like this?

I work in this sector. And have seen this several times, and can say from my experience they will claim of you/your insurance.

Also the bill will be eye watering. Did the actual nozzle snap off? Like they are designed to do, to prevent further damage.

Also was the reason they refused to arm a pump/ cashing up mean they had just closed?

good luck with this
I know someone who runs a petrol station
some of the costs they have to pay for equipment seems frankly criminal

Googling the same issue in the US implies it is quite common there and costs vary between $30-200 depending on the damage. Apparently they are designed to break away with the main damage being to the connector.
