I have even seen some sub 1k crossfires available now, I like the style - retro but are they reasonable cars or cack ?

I recall in the 80's (Euro)Chrylser released some crap so have always been wary of the new range even though I do like the retro look of these and the PT cruisers.

Shame if they are crap as there was probably potential there.

It's an old Merc SLK underneath. Those who actually have experience rather than a sackful of prejudice seem to like them.

It's just a previous generation Merc SLK built down to a price with a different body. It was never much loved but I'd have one for a grand.

For under £1k if the looks float your boat it has to be worth a punt surely?

Based on the 1st Gen Mercedes SLK iirc so I'm guessing the mechanicals must be ok.

I wonder whether those caying "cack" have ever driven one? Check the facts, and at that price you might have some fun with one!

"Crossfire was based on the R170 platform and shares 80% of its components with Mercedes-Benz SLK320. Chrysler did the interior and exterior styling, all other elements of the car such as wheelbase, track, engine, transmission, chassis structure, suspension components, are shared with the R170 platform. An example of this is the engine bay of the Crossfire, which is virtually identical to the Mercedes-Benz SLK320 on the R170 platform. The seats from a Mercedes-Benz SLK320 would bolt directly into the Crossfire chassis. The dashboard layout, control panels, and instruments are very similar to those on the Mercedes-Benz SLK320."

I'd have to sell my tatty MGB GT to get some funds towards buying one, hence my wary attitude - especially as the MGB is ace fun.
I guess the fuel economy in the crossfire is better than the MG though even if it is a 3.2 V6 lol

The AMG version is pretty quick as well. According to my Chrysler mech pretty reliable as well.

I`d have it if it`s cheap.
The underpinnings are OK it`s just the cack interior that would put me off.
Not the world`s prettiest car but I`d rather see that on the road than another Audi A4 Tdi.

Clarkson was not very complimentary about the rear view of them - something to do with a dog's daily activity IIRC.

SWMBO saw one at the Motor Show many moons ago. "Why has it got a draining board on the bonnet" was her question?

Definitely an acquired taste on the styling front!

The cheapest on the PH classifieds is £3500 so a £1000 car must be a wreck.

A couple on A/T for less than 2 grand.
Good ones seem to start around 2.5k.
Are they all 3.2 V6`s?

A bit too rich for me, 1500 tops as it would be a "novelty" purchase.

Autotrader has a few that look ok under £1.5k.

I quite like them. I know that they are not that popular on here, but at least they look a bit different.

Isnt the Supercharged SRT-6 version considered to be a bit of giant killer?

With a smaller pulley they make serious power and have quite a following in the US.

Yep, its finding one though. Not cheap.

They don't drive too bad a little soft, Mechanicals are sound as only panels and interior are Chrysler design.

But under a £1000 must be right dogs
