Sorry, can you link to a story surrounding the 'demise'?
Ive no idea how well/poorly they are selling in the UK, but they are as prevalent as they have always been here on the continent.
Sorry dude, my mistake, I heard a rumour their sales were bad in europe but they have apparently recovered thanks to truck sales Ive no idea how well/poorly they are selling in the UK, but they are as prevalent as they have always been here on the continent.

How would the middle class cope without the V70?
Lord knows, I've had V70s for the last 10-12 years and they are excellent cars; equally as good as the Merc estates and by and large £10k cheaper. Very comfortable, great air-con, heated seats etc. as you'd expect, some of the best sound systems fitted by volume manufacturers and of course great load lugging ability due to the straight sides and tailgate.
The XC90 and V70 are the oldest in their range now and expect to see replacements soon.
p.s. Yes Volvo Car is a separate company to Volvo Bus & Truck and Volvo Marine (perhaps better known as Penta Marine) which are subsidiaries of Volvo AB
