I've been looking to buy an Impreza Turbo lately for not much money and I came across so many ruined examples through horrid modifications and rusty bodywork and it got me thinking, sure there are loads around now, but in 5 years time there will be much less looking at the state of many in the classifieds, will there be a time when they're sort after as much as an old M3? What do you think?

I couldnt find one that wasnt badly molested. I really like the original (circa S plate) or the blob eye ones. All that were for sale in the last month have been fked around with so badly that they werent worth looking at. I think there might be a market for a future classic in another few years, but the image might need to wane a little first

I think they're deffo going to be a classic, owing to their rally history and especially since they have stopped producing it for this country.

For example, the origanal mini became a classic in a short period after they stopped producing it. (mainly because they rusted to death)

The only problem is that rally isn't as popular as it once was and that's where it got its reputation from.

Hahaha.

23 minutes after Top Gear finishes and Clarkson mentioned Imprezas becoming classics someone needs to ask the question.

Of course they will.

Unmolested original turbo's
STI's and WRX with provenance
& any Special Eds that haven't been Barried.

Yeah, properly maintained, original spec early ones will be classics. They are in the same league as GTRs and Evos, they will only obtain classic status if they have been left alone.

Ahahaha I never watched it!!! I must have a look

I'm looking at one tomorrow with full history with 100k on the clock for a good price with 'stage 1' mods, doesn't appeared to have rusted much either, I didn't think i'd find one that was reasonable, I plan to refurb a lot of bits and get it rust treated etc etc.

The best case for this being true is to look at the prices of mk1 escorts. 25 years ago it was the boy racers weapon of choice, now the more affluent of those now grown up racers are prepared to pay serious money to re-live their glory days.

The Impreza seems to me to be the modern equivalent, so you might have to hang on to it for 25 years but it ought to get there. Christ only knows what a litre of v-power will cost then though!

Been saying this for a while, mint and original turbos will, P1's and 22B's already are, probably worth hanging onto the ruined ones ina barn for when they are getting scarce, look at the early Escorts and the ruins that get restored where there is more holes than car, the Impreza is equally as relevant in terms of rallying pedigree, when the bazzed up ones are but a memory then they will start climbing, an Escort needs restoration, four linking, a better engine etc to fulfil its potential, an Imprza just needs to be as it was.

they wont be this cheap for long, classics I mean, cant see the later models being valued for a long time, people will be wanting to re-create the buzz and excitement when the first ones appeared in 1992, and the ten years or so after, the heyday.

I have a completely original 1996 WRX 'Wagon in my garage. Exactly the same as when I imported it from Japan ten years ago. Unregistered and unused apart from a camblet and oil service a couple of years ago.

Im looking forward to their change in status.

UK300, RB5, RB320, P1, Type R, Spec C, Cosworth, RA-R and of course 22B.

And a load more I haven't mentioned. Sad times but hopefully the rapid Impreza will return in the future.

Same as any (reasonably focused) performance car kept in good, original condition really.

When I first joined SN I imported cars from Japan. A fortnight after this one landed two more arrived at Southampton so I put this one aside and didnt even think about registering it until 2006, when I MOTd it (by which time it didnt require an SVA).

Values had dropped massively so I wasnt in a rush to register it and the £400 tax farce (caused by a ridiculous interpretation of the words 'first registered') made my mind up.

I had it taken to a specilalist in Sheffield in 2010 and had a new belt and a big service, drove it home under my trade insurance and its been in the garage ever since.

Some of the special editions arguably already are. The rest, probably not IMO.

Guess who buys classic cars though? It isn't the youth of today that know f-all about the rallying back in the 70s and 80s. It's the guys in their 40s and 50s that lived it.

In 10-20 years time, the guys that were young in the 90s/00s will be buying the cars that were at the top of the game then - hence in my view the Impreza is absolutely guaranteed to be a classic of the future. It's already showing the signs.

People may laugh, but Scoobynet has accumulated 130,000 members over the years. Playstation generation is a cliche, but hugely relevant.

Yeah, why would you do that?
