Would love to have a e34 5__ ix. Perfect winter shed as long as it doesn't rust away too quickly.
Not true, you can buy certain x-drive models in the UK now. I think it's limited to petrol versions at the moment.

Open question to PH and/or Mr. Harris:
BMW have started doing 4wd versions of most of the 3 series range.
Can we expect a review of the 4wd versus 2wd version of something dull but popular like a 320d?

I think this would be good, although the review would need to make sure it covered the differences.BMW have started doing 4wd versions of most of the 3 series range.

So performance, real world such as 20-80mph sprints along with stats like 0-60mph. High speed stability, handling feel and mpg.

I'm aware that there have been 4wd saloon BMWs for ages in LHD, but they've recently started offering 4wd RHD cars which is why this just became relevant.
I would quite like to know what an F30 320d xDrive is like to drive on the limit. I know what the rwd version feels like already.

By my 'while' I was meaning a longer timeframe. Some e30's can be found I the uk too rhd. I believe most other later 3 series could also be 4x4, just not rhd for the uk market. Happy to be proven wrong though
There was an E30 325ix available in saloon (4dr), Touring (estate) and coupe (2dr) shells. Never officially imported into UK although there were some RHD versions produced (I believe for Japan and SA).The E34 was only available in 525ix in both saloon and touring versions...It was importted as RHD into UK, but those were the last (until now) german built 4wd cars.
They both were quite different to regular E30s and E34s. The E30 had a different shell entirely, different front subframe and different sump and oil pump on the M20 engine.
The E34 had differnt front subframe, different sump and oil pump on the M50 engine and the whole front suspension was unique. It also used a steering rack unique to that model as opposed to the steering box on all other E34s.
Both shared the same transfer box and front driveshafts and diff, though.
Oh, and both had unique wheels to each model.

I must admit I am expecting this to be ignored, or at least for Harris to think "I don't play requests..." - but I'd like to see a 4wd BMW 3er sliding around some hairpins in Wales, with some sort of cogent discussion of the pros and cons of it.
I'll be very pleasantly surprised if that ends up happening one way or another.

One of the coolest cars I've ever seen was a black Swiss registered BMW 550ix Touring on Vredesteins with 4 x pairs of skis on the roof and privacy glass. It was in Obergurgl, Austria.
I've wanted one ever since I saw it but as far as I know they're not imported and only manufactured in LHD.

"The internet says" the F10 5er can't have 4wd in RHD form because of where the steering column is.I've wanted one ever since I saw it but as far as I know they're not imported and only manufactured in LHD.
Harris has already done a review of the 550xD (380ps 3-litre i6 triple turbo diesel beastie) in Germany.

It's available on 2.0 petrol, 2.0 diesel and 3.0 diesel.
I thought xDrive was only available on the petrol for now?Would definitely be interesting to read the comparison of RWD vs 4WD, although I'm not convinced about the need for 4WD on a modestly powered saloon car. Appreciate there is a small niche of well-heeled folks living in the colder/wetter parts of the UK that want all weather ability and perceive crossovers as a bit garish and nouveau riche. I wonder how many of these cars BMW expects to sell?
