Guys

In the first instance i apologise on posting on here if there i a better place.

I bought a new Skoda Octavia vrs 170 CR tdi. Great car for the daily drive and I really like it. However, it has a problem which has been described as a feature.

When you go over a crest in the road, on the downside of the hill the engine is being cut back; almost like the traction control is cutting in. This can occur for app 2 seconds...estimate. After scouring the issue on Briskoda it would appear that my car is far from alone in this regard. It should be pointed out that i had a demo car for app 2 hours and it never displayed this behaviour.

I can see how this may be something you could live with but also it does depend on your daily drive. Mine happens to involve about 5 miles across a B Road (or equivalent) that is very twisty and hilly. It doesnt take much to understand that the car is going to struggle with this.

About two weeks ago I had a situation where I came up behind a tractor that was doing 25mph or so. He seem me coming, pulled over slightly and I pulled out to overtake him. There was a car coming but it was quite some distance away.

The car went onto shut down mode and i was left in the opposite lane for circa two seconds, car picked itself back up and off it went...it wasnt killer close but it was less comfortable than i first intended.

This made me decide that i need to do something about it based on my circumstance.

Skoda phoned me today and offered me a shot of others which did the same thing to prove that 'they all do that'. That's as may be but it doesnt work for me and I need it fixed or taken away.

The question?

Where do i go with this if Skoda say 'they all do that' and I feel that I cant live with the car if 'they all do that'.

I know that many people will just reply with suck it up but it is a problem that makes driving it on my route so awkward that i am not in the frame of mind for letting it go.

From my perspective the next step may be Trading Standards...any thoughts on next steps?

Don't know if it's connected in any way but new shape A4s (TDi) do exactly that small cutout as I turn off the main road down a sharp dip into my road. Never happened with any other car. It wasn't isolated - I work for Audi dealer so I brought lots of different ones home, all did the same thing; as I turn and road dips, car cuts out briefly.

that sounds exactly like what i am experiencing. I have however, never experienced anything like it in any other car...bizarre.

Bearing in mind your workplace, any suggestions on where to go with it?

As with the response above, my current and last Diesel Golf and Audis have done something similar however it only feels momentary when the gradient changes downwards but only seems to occur on certain roads. One of my previous cars was a TT TDI Quattro which I tended to drive a little quicker but never noticed it

When it 1st started happening I mentioned it to the dealer but they could not replicate it on a short road test and since then I have presumed it was a characteristic of the ESP.

I wouldn't accept it.

Are you in any way mechanically minded ?

If you are I'd try disconnecting one of the wheel sensors this will disable ESP (and ABS) and see if that fixes it.

If it does then I'd suggest the ESP software needs updating, of course whether they will....

disconnecting the sensors is a good call. I may try that.

bang on with the not accepting that. as per the previous posts it is not an unknown phenomenon but it is a freakin annoying one.

I will persist with them...I have however apologised by mail to the Skoda Foreman that phoned me up with the cheery news that he had others for me to try in order to prove that they all do that....i guess he misread the situation but that doesnt detract from me being a pr1ck :-(

If they all blew up every 100 miles would that make it acceptable - but a sudden loss of power is deemed reasonable - see if they'll put it in writing then reject it.
