On the look out for next motor after getting by with a few months of using public transport but O/H is driving me completely insane. I keep pointing out motors on ebay or autotrader but the OH demands are just crazy.

Wants cruise control and leather but should be a small economical engine? doesnt want to spend more than £1000 but it shouldnt be older than 5 years. GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

This is what happens when you go out with non-car people. 'Just show me what cars in our area are going for on ebay' ....UH WHAT!? you need to be a little more specific. Wants to know what cars you can get for a grand within 10miles of postcode. All completely useless information. Won't go to showrooms as 'doesn't fancy a new car' but isn't sure about cost of maintaining an old one. aaaahfgdhgfuhgghhgdfhfdjshfdjhgdhfdshfs!!!

I'm just gunna have to spend a weekend on this on my own and they'll just have to live with whatever my choice is.

Good luck is all I can say.i hope that a little gem will pop out from the classifieds.

I can tell you some years ago when my ex was looking for a car, she was after an Alfa 147. She had the cash, she refused any contributions from me and from her family, it was her car. I kid you not, I trawled most of the Alfa dealers with her and she did not find something she liked, if it was not one thing it was another. Her biggest was that she wanted nothing leather in the car. That was and is a bit difficult as when she meant nothing, it was nothing leather.

The whole process took close to 6 months of looking around and eventually something just happened to stick out from all the others. That was a long 6 months for me. I hope a gem can be found amongst the classifieds.

Isn't this how women approach most things in life though. I'm only 22 but have worked this out already, I assume you are older therefore am shocked you havent worked this out yet...

For example. My gf this morning:

gf: I'm hungry (etc etc)
me: What would you like to eat?
gf: Anything.
me: How about this (suggest delicious meal)
gf: Anything but that...
me: OK, what about this..
gf: Don't fancy that either...
me: Oh ffs, shall we just go get a MacDonalds and be done with it.
gf: No, I don't like that (despite me clearly remembering her eat it less than 2 weeks ago)...

She is also a heretic and hates her Ford Puma for various stupid reasons.

In fact, why am I even with her?

A grand to spend. No older than 5 years old. Wants cruise and leather.

Clearly a case of Champagne taste and beer money...

This.
Only way tbh.

As a compromise let her choose the iron/kettle/washing machine etc etc.

I'm confused - are you buying a car for her, or yourself? Or going to share it?

You could always point out that larger cars tend to get better fuel economy at motorway speeds. If she wants cruise control, I assume she does a lot of motorway driving?
If it's a car to share, buy something she won't like so you get to drive it more.

My Mrs wants a new car, in fact she's been going on and on about it for weeks

Trouble is, she wants a specific car in a specific trim - neither of which i can find anywhere.

Be easy if it wasn't for that stoopid fking auto only license she has

Your problem is that she should be buying the car, not you.

Yep. Unless you're married, send her out, say "yes dear" to whatever she suggests and don't get involved. It'll only become your fault.

If you're married however, you have a duty to protect the household finances.

Ironically, she did spot one last week

I made an appointment to see it Thursday morning - half way there i get a call from the salesman letting me know they sold it the previous day.

Pity

If the car is going to be yours then do this:

This.
If the car is going to be hers then carefully explain the consequences of being legally equal, and that it's no longer your problem.

If the car is going to be shared then change the woman. Or buy an Audi - they've looked about the same to non-car people for decades so she won't be able to tell how old it is.
