Whats a car worth in scrap nowadays?
Discussion
Today I recieved the news that I had been dreading. The bottom end of my 2009 impreza diesel has failed and the car is now scrap. The repair costs outway what the car is now worth, and so its now time to get rid and cut my losses and effecitvly write it off.
Repair costs are £9k as it needs a complete new engine, thanks ot a bearing failing and the resulting swarf being passed around the engine taking the turbo with it. In its current state, it runs just, but no one knows for how much longer.

Would be worth a lot more in spares than scrap...
Haven't got the space to allow me to strip it sadly.Doors, body panels, clocks, interiors bits, rad, wheels etc all worth good money on ebay!
You're throwing pound notes on the fire if you don't explore the above!
Seriously if want rid pm me and will give an offer may get more on ebay however but will collect it and leave it on my drive until I can source a used engine to fit to use as a daily drive.
Honestly though I would do that if I was you one will get wrote off sooner or later no matter how rare they are...

I'll second that. Honestly though I would do that if I was you one will get wrote off sooner or later no matter how rare they are...
In fact I'll offer a pound more!
No offence OP, but I'm thinking a lot of PHers have more money than sense sometimes...
I mean, seriously, scrapping a 2009 car???

Doesn't have turbo etc
The only option is too wait really for one to be wrote off to repair it economically as fitted all in that engine will end up 5/6k easily with the turbo etc...

I really would be getting in touch with Subaru UK and getting an engineers report. I would be aiming for a massive goodwill amount from Subaru.

Have you any reason to believe that the above wouldn't be successful - any misuse or poor maintenance on your part?

This is also worth the shot if the car has low milleage and a full service history Have you any reason to believe that the above wouldn't be successful - any misuse or poor maintenance on your part?

If it's quite leggy with a patchy history you have no chance however

If you want rid of it then sell it as spares or repair.
If it's been looked after then I'd want Subaru to get it sorted. Subaru have a great reputation for customer service. I would be speeking to them as a first point of contact.
Aside from this, have you tried phoning around for prices? £9,000 is a lot of cash for a repair on a diesel engine
