Op: I want a 40mpg minimum, door hatchback, with at least 3 years warranty, fuel not important but I've been looking at diesel Astras and Focuses. Budget is £15k.

Typical responses include: I've no experience of either car as modern stuff is overpriced ste, you're mad buying a new car for £15k when £5k will buy you an E36 M3, you need seven year old 330i because (in internet land) they do 40mpg all day long, or other miles off the mark suggestion.
