private plate query

Hi guys its my first post here, I have a quick question for people in the know and had experience with this.
I have bought a honda crv at a vehicle auction house and it had a private plate with the car.
I have got the v5 docs back and the plate is now mine.
How do I go about selling the plate and what is the process?
Do i have to get in contact with DVLA and apply for a new plate for the crv, it is a 2004 year crv.
