What would be YOUR perfect project

I think some sort of epic restoration of a proper classic 50+ year old car which perhaps was destroyed in a racing accident or something, a car with a proper traceable history and provenance, and a story to go with it. I love the idea of resurrecting something which is long dead and then taking it back on track.
It'd involve the challenge of researching parts sources and manufacturers, and painstakingly fabricating anything which isn't restorable.

I always wanted (When I had one) to take a corsa 1.2 and do the full Regal Autosport treatment to it; turbo, suspension, engine mods and all the rest. Keep it looking as standard as possible just so as to be the antithesis of the all show and no go numpties.
I've also fancied doing a supercharged V8 Land Cruiser, I reckon that'd be an awesome laugh!

I'd quite like to design and build my own car, aiming to make something similar in look and feel to some of the '50s sports racers (Ferrari 500 Testa Rossa, that sort of thing) but built around readily attainable components. Perhaps a race tuned Ford Pinto or similar, Type 9 gearbox with non syncro straight cut internals, a well located live axle, double wishbone front suspension, recirculating ball steering, semi space frame chassis, large drum brakes, cross ply tyres and gaugues Brunel would have been proud of.
Not sure if it's the ultimate I've ever thought of, but I keep coming back to putting an LSx V8 into a mk1 MX5.
Completely strip it down to the body shell first, restore it where appropriate and then go for a great shade of green. Fit new bucket seats, a mild roll cage, Wilwood brakes, custom suspension setup, better lights etc. I think it would just make an ultimate car to run around in as it won't be much heavier and you can retain the balance at the same time. Moderately attainable, but is it worth doing?
