I have just sold my old car via a sign on it on my driveway for £500
It was sorn,d
The man said he was taking it home to africa.
I was so concerned with ensuring the money was real and getting him to sign the receipt . It wasnt until I was inside that I realised he had driven off with the whole v5

Should i ring the dvla?

I am thinking if there was any issues I would just say I sent the v5 off and it must have been lost in the post. and i cant recall the gents details.. Whereas if I am honest they will have a record that all I have is a signature with no address or anything! Thus making myself liable..

Would appreciate any advice

You could end up with the new owners parking tickets and speeding fines....ring the dvla asap.

Not a huge fan of Telephone conversations with the DVLA - no record and all that.

I think I'd write them a letter and keep a copy

I'm pretty sure you are responsible for ensuring the new keepers details/change of ownership details get sent to DVLA.

I'm not sure what the "correct" way is, but I sold a Pajero under exactly the circumstances you describe and all went well.
