Demon Plates legitimate?
Discussion

I'm just ordering some plates from Demon Plates and they have asked me to send a copy/scan of my driving license and log book. I can understand why, but the e-mail address is a gmail account which seems slightly unprofessional.
Anyone used them before, am I being paranoid?
Thanks
I ordered some plates from them yesterday; I looked for a long time for a decent online 'builder' that also displayed the BS number and the postcode of the manufacturer to ensure that our friendly boys in blue and MOT tester would be happy with them. It wasn't initially clear that they added the required information but it's in the Ts&Cs somewhere. I scanned and e-mailed the required information today and received a reply within a very short space of time to confirm receipt and also to say that they would despatch the plates today so should hopefully receive them tomorrow. I'll let you know what they're like but from the sounds of it other posters have used them without issue so fingers crossed all's well. So far I've no concerns and am happy with the process. I've used them twice, and the last time they asked me for the same. It's got something to do with conforming to the DVLA rules ,so that they can produce "fully" legal plates, with all the needed markings. At least I think, that's what it said in the e-mail.
The plates always seem to be well made and decent quality. They don't do that awful thing, where black starts to run down the inside of them after a few years.

What about www.platesforcars.co.uk
I was going to order mine from there as they will do a chopped down plate for the front of mine but with full sized lettering with the legal bits as well.
Anyone used them?
Thx

im not allowed to name and shame. one company just took my money £53 and sent part of the order although i had paid for extra speedy tracked delivery and with the legal part missing and the plates were damaged. when i complained they said throw them away and we will send some more. then i received an email saying they are not going to send the plates, and i wont get a refund unless i send the plates back, which i obviously couldnt. so now i have no plates, no accessories and lost £53
so pm if you want to, as i have already had 12 pms already

I've used them twice for normal size plates and had no problems. Plates had the right markings and went through the MOT fine.zcacogp said:
Apologies for being thick, but what's all this (and other comments on here about 'legals' and MOT) about?
Presumably you're referring to the BSAU number and postcode?P Nuts said:
... carry all legal bsau markings and postcode etc.
Oli. It just shows that the plates were made by a registered maker who verified that you are the rightful owner of the plate. It's to try to combat cloning plates. This is why they have to ask for identification and proof of ownership of the vehicle. I think that only vehicles registered after a certain date in 2001 have to carry them.
Interesting, thanks. I've never heard of such a thing. (But then, I haven't ever owned a vehicle made after 2001, which may explain it.)
Sounds like another bit of pointless bureaucracy from the bottom-inspectors that will increase hassle for the law-abiding majority and do nothing to tackle the troublesome few. But that's a different discussion I guess.
