Heard a road safety radio advert today telling people to stop when a lollipop man/lady is in the road because there will be children crossing...

Well I guess no more running down lollipop men and children for me then frown Sign of the times I guess..

But seriously c'mon! How thick do they think we are!!!

Perhaps if a few weren't so militant they wouldn't get run over.

I had one thrust her stick into the road about 30ft in front of my van when a woman (who may have wanted to cross) was still 15ft from the crossing.

I doubt I could have stopped, I didn't even try - she quickly thought better of it and removed her stick.

When its just the lollypop person, feel free to run them down.
Was that the general message?

Happened to me just today. Silly cow just marched straight out in front of me without looking in my direction, then had the cheek to give me the eye when I jammed on the anchors. I had clocked her, but didn't think she would be mad enough to walk out on front of me.

One of the lollypop persons I encounter on my daily commute stands at a light-controlled pedestrian crossing, pressing the button when a prospective customer arrives, then walking out into the middle of the now red-lit crossing and escorting them across.

What is the point?

My local Lollipop person is placed very close to a mini roundabout, and on a road where school run parents park as inconsiderately as they can.

As the traffic sometimes flows slowly, I've often seen her let only one car through before stepping out into the road again...

Madness.

Ones around here are brilliant.

Little-known fact of the day: why do Lollipop ladies' lollipops have a horizontal black bar across the middle? Originally they were supposed to keep a piece of chalk in their pocket - thus, if a car refused to stop, they could whip the bit of chalk out with one hand and jot the reg down in the black bit, obviating the need to wedge the lollipop between their kness whilst trying to get pencil and paper ready . . .

And show said reg number to a passing police officer.

Sadly both of these are now a rare sight on our roads

This was a topic on the national news late last year. I cannot remember the area but I think there was one death and several
near misses where drivers ignored the crossing patrol and barged through. This has led the patrols to have cameras on their
uniform and lollipop for video evidence of any wrong doing.
If you are near a crossing at school times be prepared to stop.

This, ive seen them doing this. Or doing it at zebra crossings. I suppose the latter is more justified though.

A little, but the automatic one is really mad! I saw the same thing for years, even when it was upgraded to the sensing type (i.e. it knows when everyone has crossed etc) they still had someone marching backwards and forwards, even though there were roads nearby that could've used her!

WHAT? You mean you're not supposed to aim for the target they hold?

I don't see why they can't wait a minute or so and get a bunch of the kids to cross together, why do they have to keep stopping the flow of traffic for one kid to cross. FFS.

Why?
Is the kid's journey less important than yours?

Pathetic attitude.

Why should the traffic, in a very busy area, just off a roundabout so causes back ups in 4 directions.. Have to stop for one kid, when within 30 seconds another few kids will be along to stop the traffic again.
