Surely no more than 3 weeks?

Anyone got any recent experience?

Phone BCA if it was bought with documents. They are useless at doing anything unless pushed.

I presume you mean you bought as a private buyer and they didn't hand the V5 to you at the time but rather made you complete it there and then and register the car in your name?

If this is the case, BCA just send off to the DVLA. It can take up to 6 weeks for the DVLA to issue a new one but usually more like 2 weeks if they do not do a security check and about 3 weeks if they do.

You can phone the DVLA and they will confirm they have received it and probably give you an estimate of when it will be printed and sent out.

Just rang BCA and they confirmed it has been sent off but they say it can take up to 6 weeks (!) to come back in their experience. I'm sure they are normally quicker than that.

DVLA only say within 6 weeks. In practive, they are usually faster, but not always.

Like most T&Cs that state 'up to X amount of time'; it's a safeguard. Chances are it will arrive sooner than 6 weeks but there's little point in BCA or DVLA over promising and under delivering.

If it's taxing the car you're concerned about you should have the green slip.
