Surely with the whole system now being computerised they could send you a reminder?

You get reminded about everything else, Tax, insurance, etc...

It is the one thing that rally matters(your car is safe/roadworthy)

This is the Government we're talking here: the important thing to them is money, either through IPT, VED or fining your for not having insurance or road tax. Yours and others' safety comes a distant second, and the fine for no MOT is too small to make it worth their while.

My dad once unusually kept his car for over 3 years and went about 8 months with no MOT before realising. A reminder makes a lot of sense.

My garage reminds me of it and the service. Which is nice.

Surely also be something the car could remind you of?

Or just add it in your phones calendar?

I'm sure the mot station I use puts a sticker in the corner of the windscreen with the date of the next mot.
But observation is not my strong point as I've still had mine lapse in the past.

There used to be a free sticker with the old posh MOT certificate, but the new certificate is just a bit of paper, so no sticker.

There IS a reminder system!

All you have to do is pay is £1.50 and they'll send you a string of text message reminders!!

"The messages will be sent:
5 weeks before
2 weeks before
the day before

You’ll get a 4th message once the vehicle’s passed its MOT to remind you to register again for the next MOT test reminder."

My dealership rang more than once to remind me, mainly because they wanted to charge me for the privilege of overcharging - but now my car is on their system, I should hopefully be bugged in advance and not forget again.

Doesn't seem to have the capacity for a cars first MOT due date though. Obviously them working out what 3 years from date of first registration to and reminding you of it is too hard.

The garage I take it to send me a letter a month before it is due, which is nice of them.

Thinking out loud here. What if there was a site you could register your car on with MOT date and it would remind you via txt/email for a lot less than £1.50/free.

Could also provide calendar integration for google calendar/outlook and maybe service reminders too ?

Edit: maybe even have a way of logging fuel consumption etc... (via iPhone/Android app)

It costs money! There's what, 50, 60 million vehicles plus on the road? Vosa won't spend 5+ million quid sending letters to people when they're trying to cut expenditure

My garage reminds me and puts a sticker under the sun-visor.

I also put a reminder in my phones calender, which is synced across any phone I buy or use.

Why don't the Government remind me about my wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday? It's disgusting, I pay my taxes and I know my rights!

Oh for the good old days when we had the ability to think for ourselves.
