Ok, so on the 7th I had my car in the garage due to a noise which was coming from the front drivers side wheel.
It turned out to be a wheel bearing and a track rod end and cost me £200.

I drove the car for a day or two then didn't use it for a couple of days. The noise had gone.
A few days have now passed, 12 to be precise and the noise is now back. On full lock when basically doing a U-turn, there is a grinding noise coming from the place where the original noise was.

I have phoned the garage who done the work yesterday.
The owner said bring it in Thursday morning and we will look at it.
He said for the noise to be back it is either a faulty wheel bearing or the car needs a new hub, which i'm guessing would be another £150 of my money.

- What position am I in here?
- Do I expect something from the garage? I can't see the garage saying it is a faulty wheel bearing.

If they do say it is a new hub I would have paid £200 for a new wheel bearing for it only to be the hub, in essence costing me in total ~£350.

Full lock noise = cv joint.

Is it the same noise as you first were aware of?

Wheel bearing will make a droning noise, but not at low speed, and not affected by steering lock but will make more noise with some load on it (eg gentle curve loading up the other side of the car).

A cv joint will only make noise on full or near full lock, or under acceleration load with some steering lock on.

Maybe your car had both, or maybe they made a wrong diagnosis, unfortunately on old cars with odd problems that will happen.

If the wheel bearing noise was really bad you'd be aware of it all the time, and if allowed to get bad enough coud also result in hub damage, would have been really noisy at 60+ mph.

Thanks for the advice guys.
The noise is a drone as the wheel goes around, where at first it was at 40mph it turned into any speed over 15mph you could hear it.

It looks like I will have to pay for the job to be done then.
CV joint or new hub? The choice is mine I guess hehe
