There are increasing amounts of people with whom I share the road who display a complete lack of consideration for others.
These people are the types who sit in the middle/outside lane of a motorway when the lane inside is clear for half a mile, or the right hand lane of a dual carriageway because perhaps because they're turning right in 3 miles time, lorries and other drivers who perform a 2 mile overtaking manoeuvre past a vehicle doing a similar speed etc...
It's dead simple - if you're overtaking, get on with it and get back in. If you're not overtaking, then get over into the driving lane. "I'm doing 70mph" is not an acceptable excuse for sitting in the middle/outside lane and obstructing others.

I'm not powerfully built, nor am I a company director - think more in terms of wimpy underling employee - but after a short while of any journey, these people turn me into a complete steering-wheel warrior (similar to a keyboard warrior but in a car) whereby I vent my frustration at any and all around me whilst driving with an increasingly aggressive style and speed. Sooner or later this is going to land me in hot water and I'm well aware that 'they wound me up, yer onner' is no defence and I should just relax and go with the flow BUT!!!

If these numpty drivers are exasperating me to such a degree and having such an influence on my driving style, then they must have this effect on others to varying degrees and are causing untold amounts of unsafe overtakes and other blurred judgement when otherwise reasonable folk are all just trying to go about their business?
I know MLMs have been done to death on PH but surely their behaviour is worthy of a tug by the BiB and at least the threat of a Driving Without Consideration charge? It would make them think a bit about everyone they're holding up with their ridiculous antics and maybe stop the rest of us from getting wound up thereby preventing our bad driving.
Could someone please explain to me why the Police chaps don't / can't do anything to alleviate this problem?

BTW, my first post so please be gentle http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/imgs/4.gif

First post, and it is a mild mannered rant showing familiarity with the prevailing PH cliches/in jokes. You'll fit in here. biggrin

Too busy catching all the murderers.

I suppose if you called them from your car complaining that someone doing 70mph was holding you up they might send out a speed camera van. You can't win.

I know - there are a few like-minded people on here and that's why, after several months of lurking, I've taken the plunge to create yet another username and password combo to remember smile

Punctuation error in your original grammatical error correction fixed eh?

Is that your 'u' that you dropped, by the way?

Typing one-handed (with fat fingers) on a tablet while I hurl cans of Red Bull at the MLMs getting in my way this morning. Just be grateful that it looks a bit like english.

I think it's a general problem, not just left to MLM's. Every day I see careless and selfish driving by people who are solely interested in their own progress, with absolutely no consideration for others - the concept that someone might want to make quicker progress than them is simply alien to them.

Case in point: Not being prepared to overtake on an A-road, but forming a massive queue behind the slower vehicle which prevents anyone without 500hp from getting past (and leaving no space in the middle for staggered passing).

Try taking the advanced driver training and test - that is more about your state of mind than anything else and can seriously help you cope with all that you mentioned

Maybe advanced driving is the way to go if it will teach me serenity and offer a path to inner peace. If I really try, I can just give a little inward shake of my head and feel superior to their poor standards despite my own failings as described above..

But why, oh why can't something be done about these rolling roadblocks? It's not just a rant, it's a serious question. If a traffic car sees this happening, why not have a chat and offer some advice?

There's definitely something in that point of view.

The A1 and M1 were particularly bad yesterday morning. Mile after mile of elephant racing, with lane 3 stuck at 60mph because someone didn't appreciate that it's an overtaking lane and that they have a responsibility not to hold up other road users. All they see is their own personal right to use whichever lane they choose at whatever speed they choose.

I don't think advice would make any difference. These people obviously think they're in the right since they aren't speeding, they need an actual punishment to realise the error of their ways.

I think police advice can work well if the person knows they were in the wrong and appreciates that things could have been worse if the copper hadn't let them off with a warning.

Don't forget, they're going to need something to put in ready meals now that the horse meat has been taken out.

If it was a policeman telling them they were in the wrong and how to improve in future, they may take more notice than just when a perceived idiot eventually screams past on the inside at a breathtaking speed of 80mph.

I have taken to nudging them. I wait and then tailgate a bit, finally resort to flashing my lights and then nudge them.

The fact that nothing has come of my behaviour shows how few police are on the road, but we knew that already because of the disregard of the rules from the majority of road users.

the thread was too calm, not enough ranting or name calling so I felt the need to liven it up a bit

Maybe, but giving 'em 6 points and a £300 fine for DWDCA would get the message across better. shoot

What is the point in having a front desk, if we let just anyone walk in? Can someone call security!

ooh, it's time for my 11am G&T, thank you, Sandra. Nice skirt by the way.
