What rivals the E60 535D for under £20K?

I'm looking for something along the lines of a 535D in size and price.
Diesel would be my first choice, but wouldn't rule out petrol.
Cars I've considered - 535D, RS4, E90 M3 (OK, a bit more expensive but not out the question)
Cars along the lines of those.

Sorry to laugh, but you want something which is like a 535D in size and price. And diesel would be your first choice.
And the other two cars on the shortlist are both a class down, a size smaller and sip the fuel from a pump which is not your first choice.

lol, not sure I follow. If you want diesel why was the M3 and RS4 a consideration? Not too mention both being a model range smaller than the 5 Series.I'm looking for something along the lines of a 535D in size and price.
