I get plenty of cold calls from ambulance chasers and PPI scam artists (despite being registered with TPS), but not had this one before:

"Due to a change in legislation, anyone with more than £10k of unsecured debt can apply to have 70% of it written off"

What's all that about then?

Really annoys me, as it's people like me who end up paying for the leeches who make claims.

If you have an accident, be more careful, or don't go outside without your mum.
If you bought PPI that was never going to pay out, read the small print, and try not to be so stupid in future.
You borrowed the money, you should pay it back. Live within your means.

Best thing to do with these callers is just wind them up. I got one guy to say "I fk your mother!" because I was telling him about the scam he was perpetrating.

The PPI one the other day (they insisted I must have taken a loan out in the last 10 years) was quite funny. I'd just build up a head of steam and started into a tirade and got one "bullst" into it before they hung up. Withheld their number too. Gits.

I usually tell them the call is being recorded and ask for name address etc. The hang up before my sentence is out.

They can't even be arsed to call me these days. I just get fekking automated messages instead.

Best option... count to two as soon as you say hello. If no one says anything, your delightful phone company is connecting you to a pile of crap that will waste a few minutes of your life.

Do these companys have to pay for these calls? Hope so!

Isn't general gassing meant to be general gassing re cars?

Unless its now random ranting of course...

In which case I am entitled to my rant about this post being nothing to do with cars.

(please note: in principle I agree with your sentiment - just think that sentiment could be expressed elsewhere)

(and yes I could've ignored this post but as I clicked on it - assuming from the subject it was cold calling following perhaps an advert you placed as I have a friend who has recieved this - I figured I would rant back).

I was reading PH when I got the call - it stopped me thinking/dreaming about cars.....

Then thats fair enough!

Please feel free to rant away.

May I add-> the cold calls I hate most are the 'There is a serious virus with your Windows computer system' ...

I lie- I enjoyed my last one... I pretended to be really stupid following their instructions and managed to get the 'supervisor' on the call to 'help' me identify there was indeed a virus...

If he's nearby I'll put my two year old on the phone to them, so they get to hear about peppa pig and how he's just done a wee on the potty. Normally they hang up pretty quickly!

For the financial ones, I now use the line, "Do you know that you've called me at work? Do you realise that I work at the Financial Services Authority?"
