coffee

Let it break in, and stop "enjoying" the boost. Eh voila, fuel consumption better...

Summer will be better mpg than winter too.

My new Passat TDi went from 62 mpg down to 55 ish on a long clear run during the winter.

If you made your mind up as quickly as that, did you even bother to test drive it?

My 1.6d Skoda superb only gets near claimed MPG if driven at 60mph on the motorway. It is all lies, but they all lie, so pick one and drive it gently! Or ignore MPG and drive as normal!!

Mine gets 50MPG if driven at or around speed limits on motorway, and not using cruise - that makes it worse.

yes i did nothing wrong with car but when you are told it will do the mpg then what do you do , they also said if there was anything wrong or we didnt like it we can take it back and change it because we bought on one of there option, when we said we wanted to change it they said we couldnt 300+ phone calls, citizen advice, and telling them we are prepered to take it to the papers and to watch dog they said we can change it guess we wont be going there again

Was reliably informed by a chap from Ford Daventry college that the 1.0 ecoboost engine will be available in the Mondeo in the not too distant future

Funnily enough I just convinced a bloke in work not to buy one of these for just that reason. Dinky little engine will have to work hard quite a lot to keep up with traffic which is quite removed from the EU cycle.

Drive a 6.0l like a nun or a 1.0l turbo like a loon to achieve the same performance, power comes from burning fuel.

My cars computer was showing 5.1mpg instantaneous tonight, nowhere near what the manufacturer suggests it will do. Mind you it also showed I was boosting 21psi up a long hill whilst overtaking a line of dawdlers.

When will people start understanding that the purpose of the EU Fuel Economy tests are not to provide accurate MPG readings for normal day to driving, but to be able to compare the capabilities of different car engines?

Regardless of whether you drive this car to it's strengths, this appears an engine to appeal to the 'text book' greenies and keep CO2 figures down. I have a feeling that in regular driving, it's going to fall a fair way short of its claimed MPG.

Over three hundred phone calls concerning the mpg of your new Focus?

Manufacturers hire professional drivers who specialise in economy driving to do the mpg testing. Obviously means you won't get near their claims, expect a real world 40-45mpg once run in, driving like a saint.
