I have recently purchase a Ford Focus, 1.6 TDCI, 2010 model with 13,800 miles on the clock.

However, everytime I press the accelerator and get to approximately 1500rpm, a high speed rattling noise is heard (similar to pinking in petrol engines). It only happens when the pedal is depressed and disappears when released. The car works well but I am now tuned in to the rattle, and is becoming irritating to say the least.

I have been told that it is linked to the high pressure injection system on the car. My question is simple would you expect to hear this on a 2010 car. I have driven other Ford diesel models and have not heard anything similar to this.

Your comments would be appreciated.

Is this fitted with the later Euro5 engine (8 valve rather than the earlier Euro4's 16 valve) if it is, it's fitted with a continental fuel injection system, and you can do a drive cycle to force injector learning.

Ideally, you need to have the current learnt values reset, but I believe it'll still work without.

Find yourself a fairly long, quiet road, accelerate in 4th, 5th or 6th until the engine speed is above 2,600 rpm, then release the accelerator and decelerate until the engine speed falls below 1,600 rpm (don't press the brake or clutch pedals, as this cancels learning)

You will need to do this at least 4 times, although 15 decelerations is thought to be the optimum.

This process basically allows the PCM to take account of injector wear - they say the most wear occurs in the first 3,000 miles, and leads to inconsistent pilot injection quantity, leading to excessive noise.

Oh the lovely 1.6 peugoet lump best thing to do is sell it as they are terriable engines, injector leak, injectors fail, turbos fail, problems with dpf likewise with all most all diesel engines if driven around town.

Its sounds very much like an injector leak/ turbo noise get rid and and don't buy one with the 1.6 tdci engine it will cost you so much money in the future. This is from a mechanic that regulary see these in with turbo failers, injector leak/ fails all sorts of other problems too.
