Hey guys. Today I was driving I needed to reverse up a really streep drive. After that, I could smell an awful smell. It smelt like dead animal / with sulphur. I thought it was another car who past me, but I started my car again after 5 mins after the smell had gone, and the smell slightly lingered. The first time, it was awful it made me feel sick. I drove home from then, and it stopped smelling. When I stopped and parked up I left the engine on for a minute and it seemed fine. It didn't smell or anything. Any help would be great thanks. I think it might be the alternator or the clutch.

Classic clutch surely?

EFA: I did not mean a clutch from a classic car, more a classic case of intense clutch use producing a noticeable aroma

Is this a bad thing? Also would i need to get it repaired or anything? The clutch seems fine, it gets the bite and everything as per normal.

It was the cat, FFS. You only smelt it because it went backwards for a while.

Did you only pass your test yesterday?

I always thought 'the clutch smell' was quite a common thing.

And it can't just be my dodgy driving, cos I remember it from when I was growing up as well

Seemed alright coming home, i even used the bypass so i had to shift quick to build up speed and no problems. Other than that, no other issue. Thanks guys appreciate the help.

So it's your dodgy driving as well as your parents. HTH

It wasnt for a while, it was like a few seconds, but i needed to apply a lot of revs going backwards. So is that a problem or not?

Who cares. Its OK now, yes?

Actually I farted my egg bhaji and sent it to your car.

If its the cat it will be rotten eggs smell.

Otherwise, hot clutch.

Just read online, and it is the cat.

Does anyone know what i have to do to stop it? Do i have to take it to a garage or anything to get it cleaned out?

You can't an don't. It is a fundamental part of the operating cycle of the cat.

Stop worrying.
