I intend on getting my car looked at immediately, in the meantime if anyone can give me an indication of the best case and worst case scenarios I'd be very appreciative.

The car in question is a Civic type R. The symptom is that whilst driving it home this evening in 5th and 6th gear, occasionally (3/4 times in 1.5hr) I'd accelerate and the revs would increase but the engine didn't pull whatsoever until is 'caught up'.

I realise I probably should have stopped immediately and I realise this is far from an insignificant fault but any information/thoughts would be great,

Cheers

More than likely the clutch is worn out.

What they said.

Try staring from 0 in second gear if the same thing happens your clutch is slipping.

Ok thanks, that is good news considering i thought it might be a transmission/driveshaft issue.

Is there any way i can test this? It doesn't seem to slip when I pull off or in any other gear.

Thanks, just tried that and it had a similar effect.

Very generally and only because I haven't got time to research can anyone advice on the approx cost of having a new clutch fitted from an independent garage?

Definitely a clutch. £300 ish all in for a standard clutch maybe? Can't see it being more than £400 on the CTR.

Depends how easy access is. One for the CTR gurus to comment on. Price up a decent brand of clutch on ebay. Labour wise you're looking from anything upwards of £100 (on the very cheap), and could go very north of that if it's a very involved job.

Make your way over to the Honda/Jap forum!

Do these have the 'sucks teeth' dual mass flywheel that must be replaced supposedly ?

Like so many other cars these days that mechanics recon is needed
