So the first official pics of the new Jeep Cherokee have been unveiled ahead of Geneva:

Part of Fiat's "renaissance" of Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep, and one of the first models that they've built and developed themselves (as opposed to tarting up an existing model). Based on a 4x4 variant of the Giulietta platform.

It's a bit of a departure from this:

From a business side, I'd quite like Fiat's tenure of Chrysler to be successful, but I just don't think that this is what the primarily-USA market for Jeep wants or needs.

Opinions?

That's not a Cherokee (the clue is in the image tag) so the new model shouldn't really be compared to it.

Was it not sold as the Cherokee here and the Liberty in the USA?

That's a pretty unflattering angle - this looks better, especially if it were painted black (including the chrome) - quite mean looking.

Styling is very subjective......this does not change the fact that I want something large and heavy to be dropped on it from a great height. Although if they are going for ways to make children cry, they have done what they set out to do

If it's based on a 4x4 variant of the Giulietta platform, surely it can't be all that big?

whilst I would not try and pretend that it's 'elk' test was good, it never failed per say (as in it never went over like the A class did).

(I also don't like the elk test as it's just a test for stupidity of the driver vs. electronics)

also, this is a different model car now...
