This thread may go horribly wrong for various reasons, but hey ho here we go...

I am aware that Plato played along with PH in terms of Custard. It was pretty funny and showed he was up for a laugh with online communities.

I'm also aware that there is an internet forum trend of the phrase "Because racecar"
As per this gogle search:

http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/because-race-car
Because racecar is a memetic phrase in which questions about cars are answered simply “because racecar”. For example, if one asked “Why doesn’t that car have any trunk space?” then the other would reply “Because race car.” [1]

“Because Racecar” started on January 26, 2011 on jalopnik.com’s off-topic forum “Opposite Lock.” The actual phrase came from a Craigslist posting for a Mazda MX-3, where in the description, the seller said the car has been modified “because race car.” [2]

The joke caught on fast, after Justin Hyde made an article on Jalopnik’s front page regarding the meme on January 27.[3] Other users of the site began to use the phrase as well, and a website devoted to the meme was made on March 10, 2011. [4]

Soooo..

I catch the end of a TV programme where Plato is at the Pagani factory looking at a build of the new Huayra. He is obvioulsy impressed with the process and materials and I swear utters the phrase "because race car"

It just smacked of him crow barring in the phrase to play along with an online forum.

Did I hear him correctly?
Are there mutiple threads about this and I've missed them?
Is 'because racecar' now a normal part of our everyday language and I'm picking up on a point that doesn't exisit?
Does anyone out there have the faintest idea what I'm talking about?

Given the number of people in real life who now say "lol" I'm not even remotely surprised that people also say "because race car".

Plato is on PH, why wouldn't he use something in common usage?

Before I can even begin to comprehend the Plato / Because race car thing, please elaborate on Custard?

Is the use of curious words and acronyms a PH thing, or am I slowly losing touch of a rapidly evolving language?

You obviously spend far too much time doing trivial and irrelevant things like work or family bonding and not enough time on PH. jester

The custard test has been around for years and has definitely not rapidly evolved. Basically, whenever anything is called into doubt on PH (eg whether some schoolboy sounding poster really owns a McLaren F1 or if Jason Plato really is Jason Plato) they are asked to provide a photo with the object of doubt and a tin of Bird's Custard.

Personally I think it should be adopted as a part of the SI standards.

You misheard. I pulled up my recording and he says "it has a really nice, kind of, departure rate. What I mean by that is that when it does let go, it lets go really progressively. I can just feel... feels like a racing car".

Ah I see, thank you very much sir smile

Does it have to be Bird's custard, or would a carton of Ambrosia Devon Custard suffice?

Those from the Bird factory enjoy the full backing of the law.

Others have been used in the past but I believe they would be inadmissible should the matter end up in court.

probably a dare made via twitter, it happens a lot. You ask a tv celebrity to say something on tv and make a donation to charity if they do. It can certainly liven up dull BCB sports programmes...

I actually enjoyed the build up and the background - it set the context rather well.

Well done OP.
